The final game will bring East Tennessee's surprising Buccaneers to Laughlin Fieldhouse Monday, March 2. Morehead State's unpredictable season also has been one of unlikely heroes.

The Murray game was a classic example of sudden heroics when senior Don Byars came off the bench to score nine points in the last three minutes. Byars, who was a starter earlier this season, had been held out of the game because of a curfew violation. Grant had 35 baskets in 50 tries, a sizzling 70 per cent. But his field goal percentage might dip a bit because he entered the contest with 73 per cent from the floor. At any rate, his outburst broke the school's single-game scoring record by 30 points. It had been held jointly by Grant and 7-footer Elmore Smith, who both had 45-point games last season. The 141 points by the team was no record.

In fact, Kentucky State has scored more than that twice (159 and 150) earlier this season.
