KHEEMAN AP Sports Writer DALLAS (AP) Sid Gillman would like it just dandy if Tom Landry plays his veterans all the way Saturday night. It will be Oiler rookies who joust the veteran-laden Cowboys in Texas Stadium. "I hope Tom plays his veter- Now thrus Tues. Rated R. Clint Eastwood 'Thunderbolt And Light Foot" ans all the time," Gillman says. "This is the only way we'll see what we have here.

We might get wiped out, but we'll learn something." Houston did some wiping out of its own last week, mauling Washington 48-3 while the Cowboy rookies were beating the Los Angeles greenhorns. Veteran quarterback Roger Staubach will start for Dallas but it will be John Foote from Delaware Valley as the leader for the Oilers. Foote has sparkled for Houston, completing 16 of 30 passes for 187 yards against the Giants and 10 of 16 for 204 yards against the Redskins. Gillman will not play his recently returned veterans. In fact, he sent seven of them packing.

"We've got at least 12 people in camp who are going to make it because of the strike Otherwise, they might not have had a chance," Gillman says. CLEVELAND (AP) Rangers Manager Billy Martin was pleased with the 7-3 victory of his team Friday night and with the crowd. The last time Martin was in Municipal Stadium here for an American League game with (he Cleveland Indians in early June, he and his teammates finished the night with a major brawl on the field with the fans. The Indians forfeited the game and most of the problems were blamed on 10-cent beer night. "I really don't think it was the beer last time," Martin said.

"The fight we had in Texas prior to coming here last time was probably blown out of proportion by the media and the fans that came that night just wanted to hurt someone. They weren't a regular baseball crowd." The Cleveland Growth Association sponsored the "Rally Round Cleveland" night and 42171 fans turned out to watch the Rangers score seven runs in the seventh inning. "Dick Bosman pitched a heck of a game until that inning," Martin said. "Some freaky hits really hurt him. Jim Sundberg's really broke his back." The Indians held a 1-0 lead going into the seventh on Leron Lee's double and John Ellia's single in the first frame.

Bosman held the Rangers to three hits until the seventh. The inning started off with Bosman dropping a throw while covering first, permitting Mike Hargrove to reach base. Dave Nelson and Cesar Tovar got consecutive hits to score Lovitto and Sundberg and Jeff Burroughs put it away, scoring behind them after his 23rd homer of the season. The score was 7-1. The Indians scored two more in the seventh off winner Jim Bibby, 17-14, on McGraw's two- run single.
