Feldman had presided at a May meeting where a takeover bid by Texas International Airlines was rejected in favor of a plan that would allow employees to purchase the airline by forgoing $180 million in pay raises. Texas International's takeover bid came after Continental posted a $27 million loss in 1980, partly because of a long strike by flight attendants. Feldman's survivors include three children, ages 20 to 25. Associated Press LOS ANGELES The chairman of Continental Airlines, who apparently shot himself to death in the company's executive suite, reportedly had been despondent over his wife's recent death.

The body of Alvin Lindbergh Feldman, 53, was found by a security guard Sunday in the airline's office at Los Angeles International Airport He apparently shot himself in the head between 5:40 p.m. and 7:35 p.m., the time his body was found, said Detective Kena Brutsch. Feldman's wife died of cancer a year ago, and Ms. Brutsch said that according to family members, "Mr. Feldman had been extremely despondent" since then.

Jefferson man, Jefferson County police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man whose body was found at his home yesterday afternoon. The body of Richard A. Smith, of 9804 Highcrest was found on the floor In his basement bedroom by his sister, Karen Miceli. Indiana CHARLESTOWN Charley R. Shain, 82, died Monday.

The funeral for Randall T. Todd 31, of 127 E. Southland will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McAfee Funeral Home, 3928 Bardstown Road, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. He died Sunday of gunshot wounds suffered Friday at Keg Liquors II, where he was employed.

He was a native of Sonora and a member of Sonora Baptist Church. Survivors Include his wife, the former Nina Haycox; two sons, Michael Lee and Randall T. Todd a daughter, Jennifer Diane Todd; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A.

Mrs. Ann Harprlng Vanaman, 2209 Wrocklage died Monday at her home. She was a clerk for Jefferson County Board of Elections and a member of Our Lady of Peace Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife, the former Jean Hochstrasser; three sons, William P. Stephen T. and John J. Hines; two daughters, Jeanne Hines and Mrs. Nancy Mellick; three brothers, Walter J.

Hines of Vallejo, Thomas R. and Dennis J. Hines; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Struck and Mrs. Jane Cassin; and a grandchild.

Chestnut St. Oliver D. Doyle 77, of 4531 Meridale died Monday in Glasgow. He was a native of Park City, a retired switchman for the Louisville Nashville Railroad Co. and member of Southside Baptist Church.

Schlatter 23, of Louisville died Sunday in Santa Fe, N.M., while working with the Santa Fe Opera Company. According to H. Bradley, a spokesman for the opera, Schlatter accidentally tripped and fell about 30 feet down an elevator shaft behind the stage. He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where he died after four hours of surgery, Bradley said. Schlatter was a member of Chapel Hill United Church of Christ and would have been a senior this year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

Survivors include his parents, 'Mr. and Mrs. Frederick H. Schlatter a sister, April Ann Schlatter; two brothers, Joe K. Schlatter of Eliza-bethtown and Donald K.
