Perry Coun The Courier-Journal The state of Kentucky has released the names of 700 outstanding high school juniors who will be Governor's Scholars this summer.

Students from public and private schools competed for selection. They represent 115 of the state's 120 counties. A statewide selection committee chose the participants from nominees from each Kentucky school district. Selection criteria included academic records, test scores, teacher recommendations, extracurricular activities and essays. The program is free.

Students will spend five weeks at either Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights or Centre College in Danville. They will have a busy academic schedule in the sciences, humanities and the arts, plus a variety of other activities. They also will participate in community projects, seminars and other activities that are often initiated by the students themselves. The following participants are from outside the Louisville area. (If there is no high school after a student's name, the school has the county's name).
