Kentuckiana college football Murray ready for clash with Simms defense is all juniors and seniors. I think they're as good as they were last year, maybe better. Their offense is 10 times better, their quarterback (Mike Dickens) looks like a new kid.

They've got some good running backs, although they might not look so good if their passing wasn't so tough." Dickens passed for three touchdowns last week, hitting 14 of 28 passes, and freshman tailback Danny Lee Johnson carried 13 times for 88 yards. Murray knows it must stop Simms, who has completed 63 per cent of his passes this season for eight touchdowns. Last week, he rallied Morehead from a 14-0 deficit to a 24-21 win over Middle Tennessee. "We've worked pretty hard in the secondary this week," said McFarland. "I think Simms is the type who will keep coming back, even if you shut him off." CDT. Hanover high for rematch with Taylor Special to The Courier-Journal UPLAND. Ind. "This bunch is al ways up," coach Pete Compise was say By STAN SUTTON Courier-Journal Times Staff Writer Murray State's game plan for its meeting against Morehead tonight may include the following item: Don't let Phil Simms tie his shoelaces. Simms is the Ohio Valley Conference's best passer this season, but last year the best pass he threw against Murray was one that went sideways, and eventually 76 yards downfield for More-head's only touchdown of the game.

It was the epitome of trickery, a play where Morehead huddled on the left side of the field away from the ball. With Murray in its defensive huddle, Simms tied his shoestrings near the football as his teammates sneaked up to the line of scrimmage across the field. Simms picked up the ball and hurled it back to Oscar Jones, who raced for the touchdown. "That was about all we got off of them," said Morehead coach Wayne Chapman of the game in which Murray became so rankled over the trickery it came back to win 7-6. i Murray safety Eddie McFarland remembers the play all too well, and is pretty certain it won't be repeated in tonight's 8:30 CST game at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray.

"I was standing near the huddle and I saw it coming. I just took off and I ended up getting clipped, but they didn't call it. "That play had happened to us the year before at Eastern Illinois, and that sealed our doom there," said McFarland. "We kind of thought it would never happen again." Murray (1-2) found some solace in a 21-19 loss to Tennessee Tech last week, following a 38-0 thrashing at Delta State in its previous game. "We did a lot of examining and a lot of hard work after our loss at Delta," said Murray coach Bill Furgerson, "and I think anyone who saw the Tech game has to realize it paid." Tech had averaged about 500 yards a game offensively, but was limited to 256 by Murray, which gained 354.

Murray also intercepted two passes, the only ones this year against Tech. "They, looked good," said Chapman after watching Murray on film. "Their ing this week of his usual emotionally high Hanover football team, "but they'll really be up Saturday." That's because Hanover has a score to settle today when it plays Taylor in a Hoosier-Buckcye Collegiate Conference game. It was last Oct. 2 that Taylor over came a 12-0 deficit with two fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 13-12 victory that $4 and $3, students $2 general admission.
