She was a native of Fall River, Mace and was part of a ring of 10 suspects, all drug addicts, thought to have stolen up to $100,000 in checks and credit cards. None of the others have been indicted. According to the indictment, Matthews allegedly began his spree in 1988 and continued until June. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Louisville Turners. Survivors: his wife, the former Waneta Schaber; a son, Michael P. Fischer, a daughter, Susan L. Godfrey of Abingdon, two sisters, Catherine Fischer and Caroline Furlong; and seven grandchildren.

JoAnn Mae Frye, 70, died Monday at Humana Hospital-Audubon. She was a native of Green County, a retired employee of General Electric and a member of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church. She was a native of Brownsville A Southern Indiana man who apparently used binoculars to observe, his victims at Softball fields, cemeteries and health clubs and then allegedly stole the victims' purses and wallets after they parked their cars has been charged with 37 counts of theft and fraud in Jefferson County, Ky. Martin Matthews, 42, of Milltown, was indicted Tuesday by the Jefferson County grand jury and charged with thefts totaling $20,000. Louisville police Detective Joel Maupin said the alleged offenses involved checks and credit cards issued by every bank in Louisville. Maupin said Matthews allegedly would steal blank checks from one victim and write checks to be paid to a second victim; he would then use the second victim's identification to withdraw money from that victim's account. Matthews also allegedly stole automatic-teller-machine cards and used identification numbers that had been left in wallets.
