Nine Months $7.75 A "Dear Jane'' won't- work here By Abigail Van Buren « 1974 by The Chicago tribune DEAR ABBY: It all started last summer when a very pretty but shallow 18-year-old girl came here from Italy to visit her aunt. We were fixed up on a blind date. I am 19. Abby, if it is possible for a girl to rape a boy, that is what happened to me. I mean, she was really eager. We dated all summer. She went back to Italy and we corresponded. Then she started writing things like, "Nothing else matters to me in this world but you." Also, "I can't wait until we can be married." (I swear to God I never mentioned marriage to her once.) I tried to break off the correspondence, but she wrote to me anyway. Now she writes that she is coming here to live with her aunt for a YEAR! That's the last thing I want. I want to write and tell her if she's coming to be near me, she shouldn't, because I have a lot of college ahead of me yet; I hate to sound like a heel, but I don't love this girl and I wish she would leave me alone. She told me that when she was 17 she had a broken love affair and tried to commit suicide and spent three months in a mental hospital, so I have to be careful how I handle her. Please help me. DESPERATE IN N.Y. DEAR DBS: With her history of emotional instability, do not send her a "Dear Jane" letter. You can't stop her from coming, but if she does, let her down gently and ease her out of your life as subtly as possible. DEAR ABBY: Two years ago, I moved in with an older couple, Jimmy and Laura. They treated me like a daughter and helped me get my head together. I was pretty messed up. I feel I owe them a lot. Six months ago, I got my own apartment, and three months later I began seeing a lot of this man I work with. I have fallen in love with him. He moved in with me last week and wants to marry me when his divorce is final. I think 1 love him enough to marry him, but I'm not sure yet. One ot the problems is that he is twice as old as I am. I invited Jimmy and Laura over to meet my guy. They told me privately that they think I am looking for a father and I need to see a shrink. I feel I owe it to them to take their advice. But then if I do, wouldn't it show that I arn not sure about my feelings for my guy? D.H. DEAR D. Yes. But it's nothing to be ashamed of. That takes intelligence! It's a lot easier to make a mistake than remedy it. Get into therapy, and stay single until you are sure of your feelings. DEAR ABBY: I made the mistake of lending a sympathetic ear to a woman who works with me, and now she calls me nearly every evening at home to tell me her troubles by the hour. I am not exaggerating, Abby, she often talks for a solid hour and if I don't make some excuse to get away from her, S I have 3 Mt the phone and rung my own door bell just to end the conversation. Once I actually left the phone for 15 minutes, came back, and she never knew she had been talking to herself. When she starts talking, she doesn t even wait for an occasional sign that she's being heard. I feel sorry for her, but I simply cannot devote every evening listening to her complaints about her family her job, and what's wrong with the world. «t An i DEAR WEARY: Now that you have allowed her to make a habit of calling you, it won't be easy to dissuade her, but vou have to start somewhere, so tell her you are too busy to visit when she calls, and after a while she'll get the message. Everyone has a problem. What's yours? For a personal reply, write to ABBY: Box No. 69700, L.A.. Calif. 90069. Enclose stamped, self-addressed envelope, please. Hate to write letters? Send SI to Abigail Van Buren, 132 Lasky Dr.. Beverly Hills, Calif. 90212, for Abby's booklet, "How to Write Letters for All Occasions." An "air pocket" is actually a sudden downward stream of air which reduces the angle at which the wing of the airplane meets the air, thus creating a loss of lift causing the airplane to lose altitude, explains The World Almanac. ling Sunday Morning i:00 Sunday Report 6 1:30 Old Time Gospel Hour 6-7 Lewis Family 10 i:55 Look-Up 8 r :00 Agricultural Film 3 Washington Debates 8 Church Service 11 Mormon Choir 12 ?:30 This is the Life 3 Bourbon Street Chaplain 4 Sanctuary Hour 6 Assembly of God 7 Herald of Truth 10 God's Treasure Chest 11 Farm and Home 12 5:00 Day of Discovery 3 Gospel Singing Jubilee 4 Herald of Truth 6 Good News 7 Just Passing Through 8 Insight 10 My Favorite Martians 11 James Robison 12 3:30 Voice of Victory 3 Oral Roberts 6 Get Together 7 Deeper Life Temple 8 James Robison 10 Bailey's Comets 11 Chaplain of Bourbon Street 12 9:00 Jabberwocky 3 Rex Humbard 4-6 Religious Town Hall 5 Church of Christ 7 Old Time Gospel Hour 8 Day of Discovery 10 Challenge of Truth 11 Hallelujah Train 12 9:30 Lassie's Rescue Rangers 3-10 Kathryn Kuhlman 5 Meet a Friend 7 A Conversation With 11 Consultation 12 00 Goober 3-10 Oral Roberts 4 Day of Discovery 5-7 Good News 6 Hour of Power 8 Camera Three 11-12 :30 Make A Wish 3 Herald of Truth 4 Divine Plan 5 Jaycee Forum 6 Jimmy Swaggart 7 Face the Nation 11-12 Big Blue Marble 10 Face the Nation 11-12 :45 Church Service 6 :00 Church Service 3-4-710-11-12 First Baptist Church of Dallas 5 The Bible Lesson 8 :30 Panorama 8 :45 Rap Around 6 Afternoon 12:00 Jabberwocky 3 Firefighters 4 Point of View 5 To Be Announced 6-11 Directions 7-10 Real Estate Today 8 Sports Almanac 12 12:30 Issues and Answers 3-710 Meet the Press 4 Night Gallery 5 Peace Lutheran 8 NFL Pre-Game Show 1112 1:00 John's Place 3 NFL Football 4 Chargers vs. Chiefs What About People 5 NFL Football 6 ins vs. Saints 10 10 10 11 11 11 College Football '74 7-10 Ernest Angley Hour 8 NFL Football 11-12 49ers vs. Cowboys 1:30 Changing Times 3 The Dectives 5 1:45 Movie 3 "Bell, Book and Candle" 2:00 Police Surgeon 5 World of Survival 7 Voice of Victory 8 Gospel Singing Jubilee 10 2:30 Family Theatre "World Without End" Movie 7 "Elephant Walk" Billy James Hargis 8 3:00 Crossroads 8 Thrillseekers 10 3:30 National Town Meeting 2 Championship Wrestling 3 NFL Football 4-6 Steelers vs. Bengals Happy Hunters 8 Rat Patrol 10 4:00 Land of the Giants 5 Tony & Susan Alamo 8 American Angler 10 NFL Basketball 11 Movie 12 "Love Hate Love" 4:30 Movie 2 "The Phantom of the Opera" Tarzan 3 Frank Broyles: Football 7-10 Rap 8 5:00 Tarzan 5 Community Church 8 5:15 Happy Healing Hour 8 5:30 Rookies 3 News 7 Songs of Inspiration 8 Garner Ted Armstrong 10 This Is the Music 12 Night 6:00 6:30 7:00 The 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30 10:00 Walsh's Animals 2 News 4-12 T.C.U.
