Before coming to Africa at the suggestion of the late Kenyan paleontologist Louis Leakey, Ms. Fossey was a physical therapist in California and earned a doctorate at Cambridge University in Britain. Ms.

Fossey worked in Louisville from 1955 to 1966 as director of occupational therapy at the old Kosair Crippled Children's Hospital. Although she spent two months in Africa in 1963 and met Leakey, it wasn't until she talked with Leakey three years later that she dropped her career of helping handicapped youngsters and took up zoology. When Leakey gave a lecture at the University of Louisville in 1966, Ms. Fossey took him copies of articles she had written for The Courier-Journal She was the former Esther Stafford, a member of Crescent Hill Woman's Club and Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.

James R. Scanlon of Atlanta; a son, John S. Rlnehart of Columbia, S. a brother, Warren H. Stafford; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge Lane, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Sunday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Bellewood Presbyterian Home for Children. Mrs.

Anna Schalk Schuster, 78, of 166 Thierman Lane, died Friday at her home. She was a native of Indiana. Survivors include her husband, Edwin J. Schuster; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Ernst; a brother, Bernard Schalk; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 510 Breckinridge Lane, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation at Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road, will be from 1 to 9 p.m Sunday and Monday. George B. Wise, 91, of Route 4, Shepherdsville, died Saturday at Humana Hospltal-Audubon.

He was a retired farmer, a former employee of the old Railroad and an Army veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, the former Ida M. Greenwell, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wise of Shepherdsville and Mrs. Jessie Westerfield.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St Mary Catholic Church in Shepherdsville, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation at Hardy-Close Funeral Home in Shepherdsville will be after 7 p.m. Sunday. She was a member of St Ann Altar Sodality.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alma Wright; a son, Carl Kaelin; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Habenstein and Miss Christine Schneider; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St Elizabeth Catholic Church, 1020 E.

Lay, 69, died Saturday at Jewish Hospital. She was a native of Mount Washington and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Marvin E. Lay; two sons, Gene Lay of Turners Station and Marvin Lay of Westport; a daughter, Mary Rucker of Crestwood; three sisters, Orphie Hall of Shelby County, Ruby Frye of Texas and Edith Blevins; a brother, Thomas Hall of Shelby County; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.

Monday at Willhite-Ballard Funeral Home, 11507 Main St, Middletown, with burial in Middletown Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Ollle Joseph Lentz, 56, of Mount Washington, formerly of Louisville, died Saturday morning at The Kings' Daughters Sons Nursing Home. He was a drywall and masonry contractor.

Survivors Include six daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Kiper, Mrs. Maxine Stennett, Mrs. Karen Berry, Mrs. Bonnie Hawkins, Miss Lori Ann Lentz and Miss Tammy Lentz; four sons, Joe and Eddie Lentz, and Danny and Ricky Stump; eight sisters, Mrs.

Dorothy Branham, Mrs. Pauline Povey, Mrs. Viola Stenson, Mrs. Helen Tamplin, Mrs. Lorena Ernspiker, Mrs.

Ellen Mae First Mrs. Ruth Smith and Mrs. Louise Thrasher; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McAfee Funeral Home, 3928 Bardstown Road, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday. William L. Logan Jr, 66, of 625 Jacob St, died Thursday at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a former employee of Louisville Scrap Material Co, and a mem Carol Monroe; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Arch Heady Okolona Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Mrs.

H. Paul Finley, 74, of Owens-boro, formerly of Louisville, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Owens-bora She was the former Onavee Reeder, a native of Madisonville. She was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors Include a son, John G. Fin-ley of Owensboro; four sisters, Mrs.

Freda Pate, Mrs. Juanita Simpson and Mrs. Betty Ann Rutledge, all of Posey-vtlle, Ind, and Mrs. Agnes O'Bryan; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m.

Sunday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro, with visitation from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. A second funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Hall, 91, of 1930 Portland Ave, died Saturday at SS. Mary Elizabeth Hospital. She was a retired employee of Louisville Chair Co. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Andriot of New Albany, Ind, and a niece, Mrs.

Rosemary Wunch, with whom she lived. The funeral will be Tuesday at St Cecilia Catholic Church, 338 N. 25th St, with burial in Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville. Visitation at Ratterman's, 2114 W. Market St, will be after 3:30 p.m.

Sunday. James A. Hennlng, 54, of 3667 Kah-lert Ave, died Friday at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was a native of Owensboro, a truck driver, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Catholic church. Survivors include three sisters, Mary Leatherman, Thelma Sloan and Catherine Melton, and a brother, Allen Henning of Shepherdsville.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Neurath-Cralle-Underwood Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave, with burial in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 2 p.m. Monday. Edna Vogt Oppel Hofellch, 83, formerly of 1829 Princeton Drive, died Friday at Westminster Terrace.

Survivors include a son, James V. Oppel; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 to 5 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, the former Vema Johnson; his mother, and stepfather, Margaret and Irvin L. Smith five brothers, Irvin Jr, and Robert K. Smith, Ozzie, Richard and Norris Jones; and four sisters, Mary Trowell, Annette Hill, Royella Walker and Mona Wrencher. The funeral will be at 1 p.m Tuesday at W.

Visitation at Kraft Funeral Home will be after noon Sunday. Carson McCullers and Yukio Mi- shima. She represented Tennessee Williams for most of his career. In 1937, Ms. Wood joined the suc cessful actors' agent William Liebling, to form their own firm.

They were married in 1938. The Liebling- Wood agency became a strong force in the theater and in films, with Ms. Wood representing playwrights and Liebling representing actors and directors. Liebling died in 1969. The couple did not have any children.

Audrey Wood, theatrical agent of many great playwrights, dies Now York TintM Nows Sorvlco NEW YORK Audrey Wood, a leading theatrical agent who represented many of America's great playwrights, died Friday at a nursing home in Fairfield, Conn. She was 80 and had been in a coma since suffering a stroke in 1981. Ms. Wood represented dozens of playwrights, including Robert Anderson, Brian Friel, Arthur Kopit Eve Merriam and Murray Schisgal. She also handled the theatrical estates of William Inge, Preston Jones, 30C Thomas L.

Barbee, 92, died Friday at Mount Holly Nursing Center. He was a native of New Albany, founder of the Barbee an Army veteran of World War a Mason and a deacon at Crescent Hill Baptist Church. He also served on the board of Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children. He was among 38 Jefferson County men who won the Croix de Guerre from the French government for bravery in combat during World War I. Survivors include a daughter, Betty M.

Barbee of Jeffersonville, a son, Tom D. Barbee; two sisters, Alpha B. Shipp and Deborah Waldeck, both of Tampa, four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Ave, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.

Braden Sr, 86, of Meadows South nursing home, died there Saturday. She was the former Recie Waugh, a native of Grahn. She was a member of the Christian church. Survivors include a daughter, Miss Ella Braden; a son, Robert Braden three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Gearhart of McAllen, Texas, Mrs.

Leora Straub and Mrs. Helen Broyles; three brothers, Floyd Ernest and Leonard A. Waugh; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge Lane, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Thurman Lorenzo Bridwell, 68, of 3814 Tuesday Way, died Friday at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was a native of Custer, a retired security guard for St Anthony Hospital, a member of the Methodist church and an Army veteran of World War II. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, the former Barbara A. Ashby; a son, Guy A. Bridwell; two daughters, Lisa M. Burns and Stacey N. Bridwell; his mother, Mrs.

Ada Bridwell of Big Springs; a brother, Elvin Bridwell; three sisters, Lucille Newton and Helena Miller, both of Big Springs, and Doris Fes-senden; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Arch Heady Okolona Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington. Robert D. Burns Sr, 84, of Episcopal Church Home, died there Friday afternoon. He retired in 1962 as executive vice president of Thomas Industries Inc. He was a member of Owl Creek Country Club, the Rotary Club and was a former board member of Thomas Industries. Survivors include two sons, Robert D.

Burns Jr. of Matamora, Mich, and Richard Burns of Wilmington, two daughters, Mrs. Joan Blodgett of Fort Atkinson, Wis, and Mrs. Judy Spencer; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.nt Monday at St Luke's Episcopal Church, Maple Lane in Anchorage, with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.

He was a retired partner in Hall Davis Lumber Yard and an elder at Shelbyville Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Harper; a son, Harper Davis of Prospect a sister, Miss Dorothy Da vis of Ashland; and three grandchildren. He was a native of Waterbury, Conn, a retired machine operator for American Air Filter, an Army veteran of World War IL a former Shively councilman and a member of Shively Democratic Club, Royal Order of the Moose Lodge 1365, American Legion Post 220, Cane Run Road Improvement Club, Marydale Club and St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mary A. Schwarz; a son, Tim Obernier, three sisters, Mrs. Olga Lord, Mrs. Alice Coffee and Mrs. Helen Guerrera, all of Waterbury; and three grandchildren.

Elkhorn City man dies in 1-car crash From Stiff and Special Dispatch! ELKHORN CITY, Ky. A man was killed Friday in a single-car accident on KY 197 near Elkhorn City. Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey said Roger Dale Sykes, 31, of Elkhorn City died at the scene at 10:15 p.m., after his car left the road and struck a tree. Survivors include his wife, the former Shelia Pierce; a son, Bradley M. Sykes; a daughter, Heather R.

Sykes; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sykes of Elkhorn City; two sisters, Dorothy Rowe of Elkhorn City and Linda Short of Harmon, and three brothers, Jerry and Greg Sykes, both of Elkhorn City, and James Sykes of District Heights, Md.
