The Sallna Journal's Weekly Entertainment Guide Salina Qun Show set for March 2-3 The semi-annual Salina Gun'Show will be held March 2 and 3 at the 4-H Building in Kenwood Park. Displays of coins, baseball cards and antiques also are welcome, with more than 100 tables available. Food will be served on the premises. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wayne; or Mrs. Mike White, 1013 E. Elm, all of Salina. Tap dance troupe to be in Goodland on Tap," a professional tap dance company, will present a program at 3 p.m. (MST) Sunday on the Goodland High School auditorium stage.

The six-member troupe was organized in 1982 and has toured the United States for nine years. The dances are choreographed by Debra Bray, who also teaches dance and fitness in her Austin, Texas, studio. Admission is by a Western Plains Arts Association season ticket, or through purchase of tickets at the door. The Mid-America Arts Alliance program is made possible by the Phillips Petroleum Company. Writing contest deadline is near The deadline is March 3 for entries in the Fourth Distriqt Kansas Authors Club writing contest.

The contest is open to all members and is divided into categories of short, short stories; stories for children; and nonfiction prose. All have a maximum length. Poetry entries also are accepted in the categories of structured verse (40 lines maximum), humorous (12 lines maximum), free verse (40 lines maximum) and haiku categories. Entries should be unpublished. They will be judged on literary merit, neatness, and whether they would be acceptable to an editor.

Certificates, will be awarded to the first three places, and for two honorable mentions in each category. Manuscripts should be double- spaced on opaque paper and mailed in a 9-by-12-inch envelope to Helen R. Long, 2356 Brockman Manhattan, Kan. 66502. Authors should designate the category on the upper lefthand corner and should not place names on entries.

Names and categories should be included on a separate sheet. An entry fee of 50 cents for Fourth District members and 75 cents for nonmembers is required for each writing. For every four manuscripts, a fifth may be submitted free. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of manuscripts. Awards will be announced April 27 at the spring district meeting.

Guitarist to present McPherson concert concert eatur- ing guitarist Kelly Werts of Wichita, who placed third in the 1990 National Fingerpickiijg Competition at Winfield's Walnut Valley Festival, will be held at 8 p.m. today at Belli Brothers Music in McPherson. Werts will perform traditional and original material for solo guitar. He has been a Touring Artist with the Kansas Arts Commission for five years and has his own band, The Plaid Family. Admission to the concert is $5.

Lowe plans viola recital at Bethany David Lowe, professor of music-strings at Bethany College, will present a faculty solo viola recital at 8 p.m. March 1 in PresserHall. He will premiere a new work by Dallas-based composer Bruce Faulconer, who will attend as part of a two-day composer-in-residence program sponsored by the Mid-America Arts Alliance. The recital and other composer-residency activities are open to the public without charge. The new work, commissioned for Lowe, is entitled "Fantasia No.

'Taming of the Shrew 1 set at McPherson Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" will return to the stage in Brown Auditorium at McPherson College after 54 years. Members of the original cast from the Class of 1937, which presented the play under the direction the late Delia Lehman, will return to relive memories and meet their modern counterparts in the play now directed by Rick Tyler. Play dates are today and Saturday, and March 1-2. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. with show time at 8 p.m.

General admission to the play is $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for students and senior citizens. Tickets to both the dinner and show are $8.50. Actors from the play will not only serve the meal, but will don makeup and costumes center stage as the audience dines.

Flutist Nancy Clark of Salina will join Lowe in "Duet in Major" for flute and viola by Franz Hoffmeister. Bethany Choir to perform in Wichita Bethany College Choir has been invited to perform a special 20-minute concert at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday in Wichita's Century II theatre for the annual state convention of the Kansas Music Educators Association. The choir, directed by Gregory J. Aune, will feature Mozart's "Alma del creatoris" with portative organ played by Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra and a special Bethany string quintet. The group is rehearsing under the direction of Eddie Creer in preparation for a premiere in early May. Stil needed are a pianist and musicians play the trumpet, trombone saxophone. Beverly benefit set for Sperry family benefit soup supper and card marathon has been scheduled for Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The card marathon, consisting of pitch and pinochle, will follow the meal. The event is sponsored by the Beverly Lions Club and the Beverly Community Club. A special account for donations has been established at the Beverly State Bank. Lincoln dinner to feature Kassebaum Sen. Nancy Landon Kassebaum of Kansas will be the speaker for the annual dinner March 16 of the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tabor College plans multi-cultural events featuring ethnic food and dance are the bookends of Tabor College's Multi- Cultural Student Union Week, Sunday through March 2.

Opening the week's events Sunday will be a Native American Indian dinner featuring Indian tacos, to be served in the college gymnasium from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A pow wow will follow, beginning at 7 p.m., with traditional Indian dances to be performed by students from Haskell Indian Junior College. A Mexican dinner will be served in the college cafeteria beginning at 5 p.m. March 2. A Hispanic dance troupe of children age 8 to 13 from Wichita, led by Rebecca Gutierrez, will perform at 7 p.m.

All events are free except for meals. Other events scheduled include: Colvin of Wichita State University will speak on cultural diversity on the small- college campus at 9:30 a.m. in the college chapel. College's Gospel Choir from Newton will lead a worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sanchez of Wichita State University will speak on the Hispanic culture at 7 p.m.
