28 Sept. 22, 1919 Mason Cily Globe-Gazette, Mason City, la. Plan Field Days on Iowa Test Farms Ames—Corn and soybean variety test plots and fertilize!' experiments will be observed at 2 field days scheduled next week on 2 outlying Iowa State college experiment farms. One will be held at the Carrington-Clyde experimental farm near Independence Sept. 27. The other will take place Sept. 28 tit the Howard county experimental farm between Cresco and Riceville. The soybean variety plots include 14 varieties that mature at different dates from early to late. Hybrid corn varieties being tested include all commercial varieties that are widely grown in the areas and experiment station hybrids. Fertilizer trials include use of manure, phosphate and potash combinations. A special feature is scheduled .for each field day. At the Carrington-Clyde event it will be a weed clinic. Corn borer control will be discussed at the Howard county farm. HERE and THERE Dumont—Mr. and Mrs. John Muller, Mr. and Mrs, Raymond Muller and son, and Mr. and Mrs. John Britton all of Waterloo, visited Mrs. Henry Wendt recently. Alexander—The Rev. and Mrs. B. T. Vander Woude, Jr., announce the birth of a daughter at the Steele Memorial hospital at BeLmond Monday. Kanawha — The Kanawha unit of the American Legion Auxiliary held a candy and popcorn ball sale for the polio fund..About $40 was taken in. Alexander—Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Myers and Miss Leila Klinefelter were recent guests at the home of Mrs. Elsie Dunn at Forest City and the Leu Dunn home at Lake Mills. Luverne—Mrs. Cathryn Croker and brother, Orbin Hagist, Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson McCall and 2 children and Mrs. William McCall, all of Chicago, were guests at the F. G. ' Hagist and J. L. Lichty home.s. Cresco — Miss Genevieve Kennedy, president of the Howard County Federation of Women's clubs, went to Des Moines Tuesday to attend the first council meeting of the Iowa Federation of Women's clubs. Plymouth—LeRoy Strand returned from Lewistown, Mont., where he took his brother Dean " who lives on the Strand ranch. Dean's wife and infant daughter will go by train later. Rake—Mrs. Palmer Peterson of Truman, Minn., was a recent guest at the parental Selmer Erdahl home. Dumont—Mrs. O. C. Lerdal of Goldfield was a recent overnight guest in the home of Mrs. Emma Canon.
