4 THE COURIER-JOURNAL, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1989 LOUISVILLE AREA DEATHS WHATEVER HAPPENED TO COMPILED BY VINCE CROWDUS Memorial fund for slain officer Donations to The Franklin Pysher Jr. Memorial Fund had topped $6,000 as of Thursday. The Jefferson County Police Department created the fund in memory of Pysher, 42, a county patrolman who was killed Jan. 10 after he responded to a call about a man carrying a rifle in southern Jefferson County. The fund will help Pysher's family with expenses.

Donations to the fund may be made in care of the Jefferson County Police Chief's Office, 600 W. Jefferson Louisville, 40202. Case of pregnant woman found frozen Police remain puzzled by the case of Jean Denise Howe, 13, whose frozen body was found four years ago in a western Louisville garage. Howe, who was six months pregnant, had been missing two weeks before she was found dead in the 2700 block of Magazine St less than a block from her home. An autopsy showed that she died of internal bleeding from a stab wound in the abdomen and suffered multiple injuries in the head and face from a blunt instrument.

Lt. Jeff Moody of the Louisville Police Department homicide division said he reviewed the case last October but found nothing new. The city has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case, and Crime Stoppers, the police department's program for soliciting information about unsolved crimes, has a standing $1,000 reward. Mother who got trial hearing device Robin Nunemaker, the Somerset, mother who had an experimental electronic device implanted in the bone of her inner ear in the autumn of 1985, did not get much benefit from the experiment Nunemaker had hoped to hear the laughter and cries of her children, but the device didn't work properly, so she abandoned it after about six months, said her husband, Dr. Larry Nunemaker.

"We are still hopeful something can be done," he said. The 29-year-old mother of three children lost her hearing because of meningitis at the age of 6. She got the experimental device in a five-hour operation at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. The device was developed by a doctor and his wife in Vienna. When Nunemaker got her implant only about 20 people worldwide had received one.

The man killed Friday in a shoot-out with the FBI has been identified, and two suspects who were wounded have been moved from a hospital to an undisclosed location. An FBI shooting-review team was in Lexington on Saturday, going over the operation in which agents killed one suspected Colombian hit man and wounded two others at a motel, said agent Jim Huggins, who is in charge of the FBI's Lexington office. Jose Rafael "Raffi" Delacruz, 29, was killed at the Days Inn on North Broadway while Juan "Jimmie" Gonzolez, 28, and Jose Aris-tides "Tony" Tamaya, 40, were wounded. Gonzolez and Tamaya were released into federal custody by the University of Kentucky's Albert B. Chandler Medical Center Saturday night after treatment for minor injuries, hospital spokeswoman Sandra Thacker said.

The FBI wouldn't say yesterday where the two men were taken. Gonzolez and Tamaya have been charged with conspiracy to kidnap and may be charged with drug-related crimes and assaulting federal officers, Huggins said. He said undercover agent William Welsh had agreed to lure a 32-year-old convicted drug dealer to the motel for a meeting with the three Colombians.
