By The Associated Press 1926 Emil Levsen of the Cleveland Indians pitched two complete game wins over the Boston Red Sox, 6-1, 5-1. He did not fan a batter in either game. An added feature was that the Indians used the same identical lineup in both games. 1951 The Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the New York Giants, 2-0, snapping the Giants' 16-game winning streak. The streak enabled the Giants to cut the Dodgers 13''i-game lead to 6 games.

1960 Ted Kluiewski's eighth inning three-run homer gave the Chicago White Sox an apparent 4-3 lead over the Orioles but third base umpire Ed Hurley had called time as the pitch was delivered because White Sox players Earl Torgeson and Floyd Robinson were warming up on the sideline. The home run was nullified and the Orioles won, 3-1, a key loss in the White Sox' unsuc- cesful defense of the American League pennant. White signs new contract DALLAS (AP) Randy White ended a month-long holdout with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday by signing a multi-year contract. He said he decided to return after "hearing the second half of the game Saturday night on the radio while I was driving around in my truck." "I'm extremely happy and holding out was one of the toughest things I ever did in my life," the All-Pro defensive tackle told The Associated Press.

White, who was in the option year of his contract, would have made about $350,000 this season. He had been asking for an average of $1.3 million a year for four years, which would have made him the highest- paid lineman in the National Football League. He refused Monday to disclose terms of the new contract. "I gave a little and they gave a little," he said. "It was a good contract." White said he discussed the offer Sunday with his agent, Howard Slusher, and then called Cowboys president Tex Schramm.

Asked if he thought he would be starting against the Los Angeles Rams in the Cowboys' season-opening game Sept. 3, White said, "I'm in good condition, but I haven't talked to Coach (Tom) Landry. I am ready and willing to contribute any way I can. "There's no doubt I'm going to be sore this week, but it will be the first time in my life I will be happy to be sore," he said. The contract apparently made White the highest paid Cowboy.

Coetzee, Holmes set fight date ATLANTA (AP) The long- awaited heavyweight fight between International Boxing Federation champion Larry Holmes and World Boxing Association champion Gerrie Coetzee will take place Nov. 16 at the Mack Athletic Center in Las Vegas, a television network reported Monday. Although no firm dollar figure was released, the bout, to be promoted by Don King and Steve Wynn, will reportedly be worth $5 million to Holmes and $3 million to Coetzee, Cable News Network reported Monday. The meeting of Holmes and Coetzee has been scheduled before but problems always arose to stall the confrontation. The original date of the fight was June 8 in Las Vegas, but that fell through.

On June 18, Holmes announced that he and King, with whom he has had public battles over the promotion of his fights, had signed an agreement for a fight with Coetzee in either September or October. Salinans drive 1-2 Salinans Bill Pemberton, 2414 Applewood, and Abner Perney, 1705 Glen, placed 1-2 Sunday at a Kansas Solo II Championship event in Wichita. Pemberton's Mazda 626 sedan was the only Stock entry and was bumped up to run in the Stock class with Perney's Ford Fiesta and several other cars. Pemberton then turned in a run of 1 minute, 30.992 seconds over the unusually long and deceptive course laid out on a Cessna Aircraft Co. parking lot to win the class.

Perney's 1:39.053 run took the second-place trophy. Fifth in the class was John Welsh, 403 Winn Road, driving Perney's car to a 1:53.780 in his first event. The Triumph Spitfire of Rocky Entriken, 1513 Pershing, was the only Prepared class entry and was bumped to DP. Entriken's time of 1:29.342 placed second in the DP class. MAGOS tourney set The Mexican American Golf Organization of Salina (MAGOS) will have its 12th annual state tournament Sunday at the Municipal course.

There will be 80-90 participants in the 18-hole event, which will begin at 8 a.m. Among the participants are two Wichitans defending champion Bob Wares and last year's handicap winner, Jack Yount. Following the golf tourney, a banquet will be held at the Building, 2055 S. Ohio. The tourney's entry deadline is Wednesday.

Knudson leads by 3 Seven-time champion Roberta Knudson grabbed a three-shot lead Monday in the opening round of the Salina Women's Golf Association City Championship. Knudson, who has won every city title since this event was inaugurated in 1977, fired an 8-over-par 81 at the Municipal course. Unlike a year ago when Knudson won by a whopping 24 strokes, there are several women in contention following Monday's opening round in the 54-hole tournament.

Donna Fitzgerald and Jackie Hagen are tied for second place after posting rounds of 84. Mary Beth Engleman (87) and Virginia Grammer (88) are also in contention. Thirty-eight women are competing in the event, which will continue today with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the Salina Country Club course. The final 18-hole round will be played Wednesday at the Elks Country Club course.

Salina Central spikers young, but wiU challenge By STEPHEN WHITE Sports Writer With just two seniors and two juniors on the squad, Salina Central's volleyball team will not be deep in 1984. But don't sell the Mustangs short because of thier short roster. Maxine Hays, entering her llth season as Central's head coach, expects the Mustangs to prosper despite a roster laden with sophomores. "I think we can go a long ways this year if we work at maybe further than last year," Hays said. The Mustangs jump into their '84 schedule tonight at the Central gymnasium, as they host a dual match with Marquette.

The junior varsity will play at 5:30, followed by the varsity at approximately 6:30. Central bobbed around the .500 mark most of last season before finishing with a 12-15 record. The Mustangs placed third in the 1-70 League Tournament, but lost in the first round of sub-state. Because young girls will figure prominently in Central's season, Hays said, developing a winning trend early will be important. If things progress as Hays hopes, she said, "We should take first or second in the 1-70.

"I'd like to do better than .500," she added, sounding as though she would be extremely disappointed if the Mustangs did not finish above .500 and challenge for a state tournament berth. Hays' optimism stems from the quality of her two returning starters, high expectations of her other two upperclassmen and a sophomore class bubbling with athletic ability. Nancy Theel (5-5, senior) and Rhodona Waite (5-6, senior) are Central's returning starters, and both earned first-team all-I-70 recognition last season Theel as a setter and Waite as a spiker. Joining Waite. on the front line will be Sheila Cherry, a 5-11 junior who earned a starting spot midway through last season, her first in a volleyball uniform.

Cherry, Hays: said, is the Mustangs' best athlete and, teamed with Waite, will provide Central a formidable spiking tandem. Central's other junior, Terri Dixon (5-9), is making her volleyball" debut. Based on the potential she's shown already, Dixon figures to be a starter before long, Hays said. Central's strength will be in the middle, where Theel will be complemented by Julie Bostater (5-7, sophomore). And should the Mustangs need a third setter, Hays said, another sophomore, Mary Perez, could fill the bill.

However, setter is the only position at which the Mustangs even hint at depth. Sophomores Theresa Brichacek (5-9) and Melissa Cooper (5-8) are the Mustangs' leading candidates to fill out tonight's starting lineup. Two other sophomores who also figure in her varsity plans are Jean Gorton and Raelynn Carpentier. Salina South opens its volleyball season Sept. 11 at Great Bend.
