THE FIDELITY STATE BANK 'You Have a Friend at The Fidelity" 295-6t Yes-Yes Bird Nods His Head; Easy to Make By CAPPY DICK I suppose everyone grows tired at times of having people say, "No, you mustn't do that," and "No, that isn't right." Of course, they tell us these things to keep us from getting into trouble. Just the same, it is fun to have a "Yes-Yes" bird around to agree with you at all times. You can make such a bird and place him on your desk. All you have to do i s tweak his neck with your finger and he will nod his head in hearty agreement with anything you say. To make • Yes-Yes bird you ' will need four pipe cleaners, a pine cone and a dried seed pod. Use the pine cone for the bird's feathered body (see Figuree 3), I the pointed end serving as the tail. The bean pod of the wisteria vine or the catalpa tree will form the head of the bird. If the pod is long, use only a small part of one end as shown by the dotted line in Figure 1. Twist two pipe cleaners togeth- I er about halfway down their I length. The twisted part will form the bird's long neck. Then bend the ends of the cleaners around the core of the cone as in Figure 2. Tuck the cleaners inside the projecting sections of the cone so they will be hidden from view. Twist two more pipe cleaners around the core to make the j bird's legs. Bend the ends as in j Figure 2 to form the feet. Attach the feet to a square of thick cardboard or a flat block of wood (Figure 3), using fast-d r y i n g glue. Also glue the pod head to the end of the bird's neck. A plume of feathers, made from fine strips of colored tinsel paper, may be pitied insido thn head. When the glue has dried, gently strike the neck of the Yes-Yes bird with your finger and he will nod his agreement with everything. MONDAY: Lots More Good Fun For Every Boy And Girl!
