You'll need an old vase or jar, which Mother probably can donate; a can of ready-mixed putty, which you can buy at a hardware store; and a collection of many acorn caps — enough to cover the sides of the vase as in Figoire 2. The acorn caps should be all putty all over the outside of the rase (except the bottom), then press the acorn caps into the putty (Figure 1), placing them as close together as possible.
