It was the fifth straight victory for the Bucs, who struck for four runs in the fourth inning, three in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

Luke Walker and two relief pitchers scattered seven hits. Walker, snapping a personal six-game losing streak, left the game after six innings when his left elbow stiffened. The Cubs scored twice in the third inning, their first runs in 24 innings. Glenn Beckert singled to center, scoring Don Kessenger, who had singled and stolen second. Ron Santo doubled home another.

Hal King, an ex-Louisville Colonel, innings, tied the score at 2-2 in the sixth and went ahead in the seventh when Tommie Agee doubled home Duffy Dyer from second base. The Mets added two more in the eighth, one on Art Shamsky's second home run of the season. The Chicago Cubs, sparked! by three-run homers by Ernie Banks and Billy Williams, swept a pair from the Reds at Cincinnati 6-3 and 4-1. Banks tagged his first homer of the year and 510th of his career in the seventh inning of the first game. When Williams blasted his 13th of the year in the eighth inning of the nightcap.

Cooper making a comeback 2Vo. 520 Associated Press Stan Bahnsen's six-hit pitching and Bobby Murcer's two home runs paced the New York Yankees to a 6-1 victory over Boston and previously unbeaten Sonny Siebert yesterday, stretching the Red Sox' losing streak to five games. Siebert, who had won his last 11 decisions, nine this season, left for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning trailing 4-0. The Yankees combined the extra-base hitting of Murcer, Johnny Ellis and Horace Clarke with five walks, three stolen bases and two Boston errors, scoring single runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Murcer socked his ninth home run leading off the fifth, then connected off Bill Lee in the seventh. Lee also was tagged for a run in the sixth on a walk and Clarke's triple. The loss dropped the Bed Sox into second place in the Eastern Division of the American League, four percentage points behind Baltimore. The Orioles had to go 12 innings to beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 with Paul Blair racing home with the winning run on a bases-loaded wild pitch by rookie pitcher Terry Forter. Detroit moved to within 2 12 games of the top with a 54 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Bloomington, Minn.

The Tigers had a 5-0 lead but needed reliever Fred Scherman to stop a Minnesota rally in the eighth as the Twins left the tying run on third base. At Milwaukee, the Cleveland Indians pushed across three unearned runs in the third and rode the strong pitching of Sam McDowell to a 4-2 win over the Brewers. McDowell gained his fourth straight victory, evening his record at 5-5. The California Angels broke a four-game losing streak by winning a rain-shortened game at Washington 2-1. Clyde Wright singled home the winning run and pitched a four-hitter through seven innings to record his fifth win of the year.

The Angels clipped Denny McLain (4-9) for four consecutive hits in their two-run second inning and handed him his fourth straight loss and sixth in his last seven starts. ERNIE BANKS, the aging superstar for the Chicago Cubs, is congratulated by Ron Santo (left), John Callison (6) and Billy Williams after clouting the 510th home run of his career at Cincinnati National League boxes of the "two or three" other events he plans to enter. Cooper played in (and won) only one tournament the LCC Invitational in 1970 due to his new duties as pro at the Louisville Boat Club. "But I have an agreement with the club now where I can play in more tourneys," Jackie said, "and that's what I'm going to do. Besides the Country Club, I'll play in two or three others, including the State Closed for sure." Cooper, who is seeking his sixth LCC singles title, says he doesn't know what to expect.

Checking Fischer gains semifinals of World Chess Tournament VANCOUVER (AP) Bobby Fischer of the United States notched a 6-0 sweep in the World Chess Championship quarterfinals yesterday when the Soviet Union's Mark Taimanov resigned without further play before the end of the sixth match. The game had been adjourned Tuesday night on the 43rd move with Fischer in a winning position. Leading 5-0, he needed only a draw to win the 10-game match and advance to the semi-finals of the elimination series. Fischer now meets Danish Grandmaster Bent Larsen who earlier defeated East Germany Grandmaster Wolfgang Uhl-mann 5V2-31A. The series is being held to determine a challenger for world champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union.
