THE TITONKA TOPIC April 24, 1975 — Page 6 — recent firing of people at various institutions. Wythe Willey of the Governor's staff was present also and I felt we had our questions answered. We have had several groups of people down to sit in on the debate in the Senate as well as in our committee. I never attempt to list all of the people who attend as 1 would undoubtedly miss some, but 1 would be happy to meet with any group and we do have several schools coming down these next few weeks. 1 do work with the representatives from the district these schools are from so we can all attempt to meet with any group. A considerable number of people have called me in regard to my recommendation not to implement the tax increases. 1 again reiterate I think the laiv is made for every count)' and until it is equitably enforced I believe the State Dept. of Revenue is wrong. I also btlicve this should apply to town property or commercial I'ropert)' as well. If any county increases its valuation this year it goes into effect July 1, 1975. The problem comes when the state revalues it will not go into effect until July 1, 1976, so the county which waits for the state to revalue gives one more year of extra state aid to the school district. Again, I am not critical of anyone if they revalue property, but 1 believe the law is for everyone, not a select few. We met with the people in Social Services who attempt to control the use of illicit drugs and I would like to pass on the following information. School administrators, school nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and parents should be aware that suspected drugs offered or sold to individuals can be examined through a state service in Iowa to determine if the item contains an abused drug. Examples are marijuana, morphine, LSD, etc. Suspicious drugs may be sent through the U. S. Postal Service to the Toxicology Section, DCS Moines Branch, State Hygienic Laboratory, East Seventh and Court Streets, Des Moines, Iowa 50319. There is no charge for this rather expensive analytical service and neither is this service involved in any law enforcement activity. 1 recently learned this service was available and have included this valuable information in the newsletter because of the drug problems that exist today. ^rotecuor. tor your car your home, your business, even your life.
