Counterclaims on Car Crash on Trial Here Trial was begun in district court Tuesday of a $280 damage suit by Soren Graverson, .Plymouth, against Carl Rooth, Hinsdale, 111., and Rooth's counterclaim of $483. A jury of 4 men and 8 women is hearing the evidence. The feuit is the result of a collision between cars owned by the 2 men on highway 18, 4 miles north of Mason City last Dec. 30. The Graverson car was southbound at about 8:30 a. m. in foggy •weather and with hard packed snow on the paving when it crashed into the Rooth car which had stopped opposite a snowplow which was northbound. Rooth claims in his petition that the operator of the snowplow had stopped him because another car had crashed into the rear of the plow in the fog and charges that the Graverson car was operating at too high speed. Graverson claims that Rooth blocked the road unnecessarily when he could have stopped on the shoulder of the road. Jurors are J. D. Trimble and Katherine Mahon, both of Clear Lake; Lester Krukow, Rockwell; Stella Trimble, Swaledale; Lillian Freeman, Rockford, and Gladys Bisbee, Mabel Winter, Mildred MacGregor, Ruth Palmer, Florence Wooldridge, R. W. Mellem and Rose Dcnzel, all of Mason City. Variety Store Sold St. Ansgar—The Reese variety store has been sold to John W. Barnette and W. M. Coover, who for the past 3 years have been associated in business in Nevada, Iowa. The store will be operated by Mr. Coover who will move with his wife and daughter to St. Ansgar in the near future. The new owners will take possession Oct. 1. Frank Reese opened the variety store Sept. 24, 1940. He and his wife plan to leave for California some time in October.
