Happenings by SHIRLEY JAREN Mrs. Clarence Schutjer celebrated her birthday on Monday and many friends and relatives called on her at the Ti- tpnka Care Center to wish her a happy birthday. We also extend greeting to her! Mr. Alfred Redenius attended the Career Midwest Life Insurance School held at Lincoln, Nebr. from Sunday through Friday of last week. Mr, and Mrs. Alvin Honken and grandsons Jeffe'ry and Dustin Honken of Hutchins were Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Honken at Wi"''«js. We appreciate any news called in or written up and sent in. It all helps to make your local paper better! Mr. and Mis. Henry Orthel entertained at a 3 table bridge on Monday evening in their home. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jake Helm, Mrs. Arlenei Rittenhouse, Mrs. Harry (?uinn, Mr. and Mrs. John Hayungs, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cink, Mre. Louise Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bode, all of Woden. Mrs. Hayungs and Mrs. Helm won the high score for ladies and men. Mr. and Mis. Jack Tieman and Teresa and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Tieman of Algona returned home recently from a 5,000 mile vacation and sightseeing trip through about nine states. They were gone about two weeks. Among the states traveled through were Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California. The morning they reached San Diego, Cal. the temperature was 38 degrees. When they left Chicago it was 36 degrees. They had a ten inch snowfall at Yuma, Ariz, just before their arrival, the first since 1927. They encountered a snowstorm at Flagstaff, Ariz. They visited an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Householder, at Phoenix, Ariz, and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Trattner at Rolling Hills Estate, Calif. Mrs. Matilda Muller of Sioux Falls, S.D. was a guest for a week in the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Knudson. Kari took her to Blue Earth on Wednesday to take a bus back to Sioux Falls. Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Huber were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Zwiefel for dinner a week ago Sunday at the Kountry Kitchen. The Zwiefels visited in the Huber home in the afternoon. Mis. Layton Nonnweiler of Britt was a Saturday dinner guest in the John Isebrand home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Isebrand and Scotty of Algona were Sunday afternoon and supper guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Isebrand. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Isebrand were weekend visitors in the homes of the Raleigh Pann- kuks, Sever Pannkuks, Merle Pannkuks and Jim Pannkuks and families in Omaha, Nebr. Mr. and Mis. John Isebrand were Sunday evening visitors in the home of Mrs. Jack Tieman. "Mrs. Herman Tjarks had surgery a week ago Wednesday at Park Hospital in Mason City. Her room number is 203. Budlong, and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Jaren drove to Newton on Saturday -where the men participated in the Mens State Bowling tournaments on Saturday and Sunday evening. The women were "chauffcured" to Merle Hay Plaza on Sunday afternoon where they enjoyed shopping. They returned home after the men had bowled. Mrs. Em Callies and Mrs. Pearle Ricklefs left for Illinois on Sunday where Em plans to visit with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mis. Mr. John Rode had surgery at Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Tuesday morning. He is expected to be there for some time.
