SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 25, 1971 13 if Far lee sees good potential THE COURIER-JOURNAL TIMES, LOUISVILLE. KY. in young of golf squad BUTCH FARLEE Serving a dual role recently fired a two-under-par against Bellarmine at Iroquois." All the Louisville players are from Jefferson County, which is the way Farlee wants it. The only upperclassman is senior Ted Beisler, rated the No. 3 man on the squad.

The other freshmen are Steve George, Paul Klein and Charles Fearny-hough. Beisler, George and Klein are St. Xavier graduates while Fearnyhough is from Trinity. With his crowded schedule, Farlee sometimes finds it difficult to find time to practice. "We solve that by working out the same days we play," he explained.

Farlee, who is in charge of devising the schedule, says Cincinnati is the best team he's faced this year. "And we missed a good shot at beating them, too." Louisville has matches scheduled Monday, Tuesday and Friday of this week and then will point for the Missouri Valley Conference meet, which will be at Wichita May 6-8. "North Texas will be the team to beat in the conference meet again," said Farlee. "Again" is right. North Texas has won the championship nine out of the last 10 years.

But wait until 1974. WPf ltff By MIKE SMITH Courier-Journal Timet Staff Writer You've all heard of Clark Kent. Then there's Dr. Jekyll. And who could forget Bruce Wayne? Anyway, all three became notorious for their dual roles, Now meet Butch Farlee.

But don't misunderstand. Farlee doesn't nvcar a cape or jump off the tops of build-Kings. Nor does he prepare a brew in his "basement, drink it and turn into a mon-s? tcr. And it's highly doubtful that he has a bat cave either. Farlee is merely golf coach at the Uni- versity of Louisville that is when he isn't out selling office furniture, which vis his primary occupation.

So, about all he has in common with Superman and Company is an interesting dual role. Actually, Farlee has been selling of- fice furniture for quite some time. But '-at of where he succeeds John Dro-s his former tutor, this coaching bit 4s something new. Freshmen dominate team 11 Farlee, who captained the Louisville -teams in 19C1 and 1962 and who has been 'ji "active in local tournaments the past years, is full of enthusiasm over his duties. "We have an awfully young team," he explained shortly before of defeated -Eastern, Indiana State and Franklin in a four-team match at River Road Friday ki- "Five of our six players are freshmen, 'including the top two, Mark Lenahan and If you've shopped around and compared, you already know that "cash carry prices on building materials are lower.

When you visit 84 you won't find fancy fixtures or an office full of busy credit people we don't have any and the thousands of dollars we save we pass on to you in lower prices on quality materials. Why pay more than the price at Chester Allison," Later in the day, Lenahan and Allison both came through with one-over-par 73s to lead Louisville to its 11th, 12th and 13th wins against seven losses. "Right now we're building for the future," Farlee added. "Of all the matches we've played so far, 14 have been away from home, which really makes it hard on these freshmen. But you watch.

In about three years we'll be able to compete with the best around even Memphis State and North Texas." The main reasons for Farlee's optimistic outlook, of course, are Lenahan, a graduate of Trinity, and Allison, of Pleasure Ridge Park. He feels both have the potential to become two of the best golfers of has ever produced. "They aren't there yet," said Farlee, "but golf's like any other sport. The more these kids play, the better they'll get and they've certainly come along quicker than 1 ever anticipated.
