(AP) — James H, Meredith is stepping up the tempo of his activities on the University of Mississippi campus, moving around for the first time without an escort at his side. But Justice Department officials, federal marshals and Army soldiers remain nearby whenever the 29-year-old Negro leaves his two-room apartment in Baxter Hall. He walked to the cafeteria for both the noon and evening meals Thursday, entering the building alone. When he left Thursday night, a group of 100 to 150 students yelled at him, "Hey nig- ger," and "Hey nigger, go home." At noon only a single loud, unfavorable remark was heard. An unidentified white student talked with Meredith as they ate lunch. Justice Department officials said th e frequent appearances of Meredith were part of an effort to get students used to the presence of the Negro—first member of his race ever knowingly admitted to Ole Miss. The Army plans to reduce its forces in the Oxford area to 4,500 troops. At the height of the crisis a total of 23,600 troops were concentrated here and at staging areas in Memphis, Term., and Columbus, Miss. 22—Boats, Sporting Equipt. You'll need the blackboard, a screen to place in front of it, chalk and an eraser. One player is chosen to be the first quizmaster. He goes to the blackboard and steps behind the screen so the other players can't see what he's doing. On the blackboard he writes a group of seven simple problems in arithmetic, giving the correct solutions to six of them and an incorrect solution to the remaining one. They should be problems in division, multiplication, addition and subtraction and should be scattered on the board as the boy has done in the picture above. When the quizmaster has completed the seven problems, he removes the screen so all the players can see what he has placed on the blackboard. The first player to shout out the problem that is incorrectly solved wins the game and becomes the quizmaster for the next round. The game is a real challenge to the players' ability to think fast. In the seven problems the boy has placed on the blackboard in the picture above, see how quickly you can find the one that is incorrectly solved. TOMORROW: Amusing thingt to make out of toothpicks! India Moves To Push Reds NEW DELHI, India (AP) — Prime Minister Nehru said today that the Indian army ha- been ordered to drive Chinese Communist troops from Indian territory on the northeast frontier. Nehru said his government had ordered the army "to free ouv territory in the northeast frontier." Fighting erupted on the Himalayan frontier in the northeast on Wednesday. In the fighting since Wednesday, Nehru estimated the Chinese Communists suffered nearly 10* casualties. This was nearly three times the figure reported 'by Peip- ing Thursday and indicated that th e battle is continuing. Red China lodged a "strongest and most serious protest" with the Indian Embassy in Peipinig, accusing India of invading Chinese territory and spreading the flames of war. Nehru spoke to newsmen befor» taking a plane for a three-day trip to Ceylon. He had consulted with Defense Minister V. K. Krishna Menon and Foreign Ministry officials on the border crisis Thursday. . —Whether buying or selling, use Telegram Want Ads!
