Titles to Denison, Lake City; Tigers 5th By Myron Williams Denison had no trouble winning Class A, but Lake City was only a four-point victor over Glidden-Ralston in Class B Tuesday night at the 16-tearn Carroll Relays here. Denison tallied 85Vfe points to easily outdistance second place Sac City with 57 points in Class A and Lake City barely escaped G-R, 97-93, in Class B. Three records in both classes were broken, with the mile, run being broken in both classes. Class A Action The Monarchs won seven out of nineteen varsity events and placed many people in the other events to allow their sweep. The Carroll Tigers finished in fifth plafe scoring 33V 2 points. Jim Molitor was Carroll's only top place finisher, winning the 180 low hurdles in 22.5. Other Tigers placing high were Steve Schechtman, second in the 440 yard dash and third in the long jump; Dave Sunderman, second in the shot put; Rich Riesberg, second in the two mile run; Dan Onken, third in the discus, and Molitor, third in the 120 high hurdles. Keitn Lauridsen of Audubon . broke the high 'jump rfecord with a leap of'6-feet, four-inches. The 1974 record was held by Prairie's Bell at 6-feet, two inches. Sac City's Greg Glass clipped 12.4 seconds off the old mile record winning the event in 4:28.2. The 1975 record was 4:40.6, held by Denison's Swanson. The medley relay record was broken by Sac City with an effort of 3:40.8. The 1975 record was owned by Denison in 3:48.5. Tiger Coach Bill Foval said he "was not that pleased with the overall effort. Jim Molitor had a good performance in the hurdles and Steve Schechtman had a good time in the quarter." "I'm pretty satisfied with Scott Shields who placed in the hurdles and long jump, which were new experiences for him and Rich Riesberg, who placed second in the two mile run. He broke the old school record with a 10:59.0 effort." added the coach. The old Carroll High record for the event was 11:00.9. Steve Marsh of Denison won the two mile in 10:49.2. "We're going to get in some good work after Easter vacation. I expect us to get tougher as the year goes on," added Foval. Class B Action "It's pretty hard to lose when you score 93 points and run as well as we did Tuesday night," said G-R Coach Barry Brandt. "Lake City is tough. They have a lot of depth. They really hurt us in the mile and two mile. They placed more, people than we did," he added. "Just about everyone improved his time. Our younger people and lettermen are doing a fine job for us," Brandt added. "We have three seconds and two fourths in the meets we've competed in. but we'd rather win one pretty soon." emphasized Brandt. The Wildcats won eight events. Lake City won six and Ar-We-Va won three. In the last event, the mile relay, G-R had to win and Lake City finish fourth to get a tie for the Wildcats. But Lake City was not to be denied, finishing second to G-R, winning the meet. r • Lake City's Brent Kutz won the two mile run in 10:14.6 knocking 33.7 seconds off the old record. The 10:48.3, 1975 record was held by Lake City's Scott Hendricks. Brian Johnson of Lake City, broke the mile record, running it in 4:47.5. Dan Moulds of Lake City owned the 1975. 4:54.5 record. Glidden-Ralston broke the mile relay record in 3:44.5. The 1974 record of 3:46.0 was held by the Ar-We-Va team.
