KHS Cindermen Lose to Boone By Myron Williams The balance of the Boone Toreadors proved too much for the Knights as the visitors easily won, 94'/a to 47V-.. here Tuesday in dual meet competition. Knight Coach John Davis said, "Boone's balance was too much for us. They placed two out of three men in every event but the discus and the 180 low hurdles." The Boone coach told Davis that this was the best Toreador track team in the last 10 to 12 years. Kuemper won just six out of the 19 events. But, there were some bright spots and "good performances out of some young men." Rick Friedman of Kuemper leaped six-feet, four-inches in the high jump, which is Ask " the AID Man about low-cost mortgage life insurance. one-quarter of an inch short of his best jump last year. His effort also qualified him for the Drake Relays. Knight Dave Schwaller won the pole vault with his "best vault ever" of 12-feet. This ties the school record, according to Davis. The Knight coach said Tim Gradoville ran five seconds faster in the mile than what their best miler a year ago could do. Gradoville placed third in the event. "Ryan Harnack has found his best race, the two mile relay," said Davis. "He ran the second and third fastest half-mile on our team. This is the first time he has run in this race," he added. "I was pleased with two sophomore sprinters. Bob Foley and Bill Friedman. They will figure in sprint relay teams in the future," commented Davis. Bob Kelly was praised by his coach for having a fine meet. Kelly won the 100 yard dash in 10-seconds flat, won the long jump with 17-6M> effort and placed second in the 180 low hurdles. Kelly's time in the 100 yard dash was impressive until it was discovered that the distance marked off was only 95 yards. Davis said. His time was still good, the coach remarked. , Kuemper's medley relay team of Paul Ludwig, Kirk Times Herald, Carroll, la. Wednesday, April 7, 1976 14 Lengeling, Rick Friedman and Steve Eischeid won their event in 3:51.6. The 480 shuttle hurdle relay was won by Knights' Dennis Rutten, Kevin Tessmer, Mike Templemeyer and Vince Otto in 1:02.7. The Knights' other first place came in the 880 yard relay with Bob Kelly, Rick Friedman, Doyle Engelen and Kirk Lengeling in 1:37.2. "We have to cut out the loafing in practices, go back to work and put in two or three good days of practice so we will run like we're supposed to in our next meet," Davis said. The Knights will compete in the Monarch Relays at Denison this Friday. They are now, 1-1, in dual competition. Varsity Results: 220 Yard Dash — 1. Godfrey (B), 24.5; 2. Pepples (B); 3. Bob Foley (K). Marshall a Mystery to Opponents By The Associated Press Mike Marshall is giving out autographs and talking to reporters these days, but he still hasn't changed his character" on the mound. He's giving the hitters nothing, as usual. The Los Angeles,Dodgers' relief ace, who's more cordial to his fans and the press than in past seasons, remains an enigma to opposing teams.
