if? SJ MM (2) 4 THE COURIER-JOURNAL, FRIDAY, JULY 26, 1985 Jefferson couple reindicted in death KENTUCKY DEATHS Probation granted in welfare fraud A 32-year-old Louisville woman who had pleaded guilty to a charge of welfare fraud was placed on probation Wednesday. Barbara M. Saunders admitted last month that she failed to advise the state Department for Social Insurance that she was working for the Jefferson County school system while she was receiving public assistance. According to court records, the crime occurred in two periods between February 1983 and June 1984, when she received $3,368 in Aid to Families with Dependent Children and $1,425 in food stamps. Jefferson Circuit Judge Earl O'Bannon gave Ms.

Saunders a one-year suspended prison sentence and five years' probation. He also ordered her to pay the state $1,000. view then that, although Barker was conscious during much of the two months before he died, he did not identify his assailant. Louisville Police Lt. Richard Si-clari complained, saying police had not been consulted before Marshall moved for a dismissal.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Bill Grimes, who will handle the new indictment, said his office has uncovered new evidence. "We had another witness come forward that's very helpful to the case," he said. Grimes identified that person as a "periphery" witness, rather than one who saw the shooting. He would not elaborate. The Watimars will be arraigned Monday before Judge George Ryan.

He was shot in the chest and right arm at his home, and died of his wounds Jan. 8, 1984, at Humana Hospital-University. Jefferson Circuit Judge Ellen Ew-ing dismissed the charges June 18 on a motion by Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Thorn Marshall, who said the case lacked "prosecutorial merit" He said in an inter Road.
