The iguana is a large lizard and may reach a length of 6 teet. It is greenish in color with brown bands which form rings on the tail. Iguanas have small scales and a large dew lap which is the pouch situated beneath the head and neck. The crest on the back and tail is composed of narrow, elongated scales which diminish in size toward the end of .the tail. The iguana's tongue is short and cannot be thrust out much. The common iguana lives in trees usually overhanging water It eats tender leaves and fruits and also small birds and mammals. It reproduces ,by laying its eggs in the ground. .
