ft 6—C THE REGISTER-NEWS — MT- VERNON, ILLINOIS Our Men In Service GARY BATEMAN Greg Bateman, husband of Elaine (Hogg) Bateman, was recently promoted to sergeant while stationed at Chanute Air Force Base. Sergeant Bateman is in the Consolidated Maintenance Squadron as an analysis technician. He entered the Air Force in January 1967 and completed his basic training at Amarilla, Texas. The Sergeant is a 1966 graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School. Sergeant and Mrs. Bateman are making their home at 1317 Harmon Drive, Rantoul, Illinois. ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, MD. — Private Larry J. Rainwater, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Rainwater, 236 Burns Ave., Mount Vernon, 111., completed an automotive repair course Dec. 20 at the Army Ordnance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. J>uring the 14-week course, he was trained in the maintenance and repair of engines for the Army's tracked and wheeled vehicles. .U.S. ARMY, VIETNAM—Army Private First Class Eddie R. Allen, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Allen, Route 1, Dahlgren, 111., was assigned Dec. 29 to the American Division's 11th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam as-a medic. * # * SAN ANTONIO—Airman Scott A. Rennels, son of Mr. and Mrs. -o- o- -o- Joseph E, Rennels, R.R. 3, Fairfield, 111., has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to Presidio of Monterey, Calif,, for training as a language specialist. Airman Rennels was graduated in 1966 from Carmi (111.) Township High School and attended the University of Tampa. SHREVEPORT, La. — Airman First Class Dennis N. Stealey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L. Stealey, 301 Lakeview Drive, Fairfield, 111,, has been recognized for helping his unit ear the U.S. JtAir Force Outstanding Unit 'Award. Airman Stealey, a communica- munications Squadron at Barks- \tions specialist in the 46th Corndale AFB, La., will wear the distinctive service ribbon as a permanent decoration. His unit was cited for aggressive management actions that enabled them to maintain superb standards, provide quality service to all agencies and to consolidate, reorganize and reduce facilities resulting in a savings of $769,000. The airman was graduated in 1964 from Fairfield Community High School and attended Palmer College of Chiropractice in Davenport, Iowa. He received his A. A. Degree in 1967 from Kaskaskia Junior College in Centralia, 111. U.S. ARMY, VIETNAM—Army Private First Class Joseph W. Tate, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Tate, 123 N. Seventh St., Albion, 111., was assigned as a cannoneer with the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam, Dec. 29. His wife, Susan, lives at 403 E. Douglas St., Fairfield, 111. FT. ORD, CALIF.—Army Private Larry W. Hicks, 20; son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow J. Hicks, 2025 Casey Ave., Mount Vernon, 111., completed eight weeks of advanced infantry training Dec. 19 at Ft. Ord, Calif. He received specialized instruction in small unit tactics and in firing such weapons as the M-16 rifle, the M-60 machine gun and the 3.5-inch rocket launcher. Vernon, 111., has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to Lowry AFB, Colo., for training in the munitions and weapons maintenance field. Airnian Osborn Is a 1968 graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School. His father, Charles F. Osborn, resides at 1524 Paula Drive, Mt. Vernon. WITH U. S. COMBAT AIR FORCES, Vietnam — Staff Sergeant Alfred Cruthird, son of Mrs. Jettie E. Cruthird, 1018 Bell St., Mount Vernon, 111., is on duty at Phan Rang AB, Vietnam. Sergeant Cruthird, a maintenance scheduler, is a member of the Pacific Air Forces. Before his arrival in Southeast Asia, he was assigned to March AFB, Calif. The sergeant, who attended .
