Mr. Beemer at i ne time was expensively engaged in the boot and shoe business here. For many yeats his identity was lost to old neighbors of A'chison, Several years ago he left Atchison to engage in business in other parts. A fe years since he returned to Atchison tempo rarily at least, broken in health and suffering the intense agonies, incident to in fUmmatory rheumatism. The last few years of his life he has spent lu seeking relief for his terrible malady.

His wife has long since preceded him to that "bourn from whence no traveler returns." Her remains lie in Mt. Vernon cemetery. The remains of Mr. Beemer arrived here from Topeka last night at 7 o'clock on the Santa Fe train. The funeral will take place from Harouff's today at 10 o'clock a.

m. Mr. Beemer was in Germany and immigrated to America in 1818, While living in Atchison he held many offices of trust. Many of hi6 old acquaintances in Atchison will follow him to his flual rest with heavy hearts and tearful eyeB. Tom Lanier, who has been loBt sight of in this city foi some time, bobbed up serenely at the police station Saturday afternoon in charge of an It appears that Tom and a young man named Walter Schmitt think a whole lot of a certain young lady, They attended, a dance given at the residence of a man nsined Parsons in South Atchison Wednesday evening and the lady in question was also there.

Schmitt monopolized the society of the girl very much to Lanier's discomfort. Tom called the foxey Walter outside and proceeded to black both his eyes and otherwise decorate his face. He then made him leave the hall and promise not to attend another at which the young lady would be present. Schmitt was quite badly bruised but not seriously injured. Saturday he caused a warrant to be isBued for Lanier's arrest with the result above stated.

Tom was locked in the same ceil with "Deafy" Leonardi, who was out on a bender Saturday. The p- evailing strikes throughout the country are causing considerable delay to the completion of the Effingham high school building. Fifteen additional bricklayers were hired in St. Louis sev eral days ago and were to have been at Efilngham tomorrow morning to go to work on the building. Several car loads of material which was ordered some time ago to complete the work has been side tracked at Borne point and the con tractor has been unable to locate it.

It is tot known when this material will reach here and as a consequence tho bricklayers were telegraphed Saturday to remain where they were. Work on the building has almost been abandoned. It is s'l id that there was considerable unnecessary delay on the pari of the contractor in starting the work, and this new delay will probably result in the building not being ready for occupancy October 1. The firm of Winzenreid Messick, who failed ft few days since, say that they have Just concluded the invoice of the stock through George Hooper and II. Chamberlain, who wero chosen by the creditors, and that their inventory of the stock, exclusive of the fixtures, amounts to $2,308.

The mortgage filed originally in favor of Lewis W. Voigt was $2,800. After which the Symns Grocer company commenced a suit by attachment and took possession of the stock prior to the mortgagee. This involves a question of law as to who will ultimately hold the 6tock. The Voigt and Symns claims are the only ones which have been filed up to date.

It is doubtful if the stock will pay more than 50 cents on the dollar of the present known indebtedness. I have two little grand children who are teething this hot Bummer weather and ure troubled with bowel comp'aint. I give them Chamberlain's Colic, Choi-era and and it acts like a charm. I earnestly recommend it for children with bowel troubles. I was myself taken a severe atlack of bloody flux, with cramps and puins in my stomach, only third oi a b.ittle of this remedy cured me.
