In the police court yesterday morning Ida Brown was fined $5 for being drunk and Geo. Jones $10 and Bessie Reed $5 for disturbing the peace. These three parties were arrested for a disturbance the evening before at Johnson Jones was fined $15 for petty larceny.

In the afternoon Geo. Miller and J. Green-1 lee were fined $1 each for obstructing the sidewalk. This last case was one growing out of the organ now at the po. lice headquarters.

The organ still remains at the station, apparently master of the situation and without an owner. Capt. J. R. Gilkison, who for six years WAS captain of the Atchison ferry boat C.

Pomeroy" died at Kansas City, Friday. When the 8. C. Pomeroy was taken to Kansas City he remained with it until the accident which sunk it. Since then he has been captain on several boats.

He was about 49 years old and leaves a widow and two daughters, both of the latter being married. Philip Porter, Atchison's colored orator, was a delegate the Whiting senatorial convention. At that convention he made a speech that not only brought down the house, but especially pleased "Potta wattomie" Jones of Holton. As result of that speech Philip has received an invitation to address the Republican club of Holton.

Quiet negotiations were going on in the city yesterday relative to the establishment of a hundred thousand dollar flouring plant and reports that reach THE CHAMPION are so encouraging it is almost ready to believe that it will be but a short time before the black banners from the mill's big smoke stack will be waving over Atchison. The following delegates to the People's party convention next Tuesday were elected yesterday afternoon from Shannon township: James Dooley, W. G. McDuff, S. L.

Murphy, J. W. Keats, Chas. Christian, Joe Reed, P. S.

Ennis, John J. Braniff and Elias Graves. The delegates are for L. C. Sceva district judge and C.

J. Conlon for county attorney. 'The Haskell Printing company have just printed a sixyt-four page catalogue for the Atchison Business college. The designs for the illustrations were drawn by the students and professors and are a marvel in beauty of execution and finish. The printing and press work is the finest of any piece of work turned out along the river.

J. W. McKelvey has moved the Atchison cornice works to 301 Commercial street, where he is better than ever prepared to do cornice work, tin roofing, guttering, etc. Mr. McKelvey makes a specialty of cornice work, and turns out work for the finest buildings in the country.

They had work in Washington chapter last evening and afterwards adjourned to Poehler's for refreshments where all present spent a half hour in jolly fellowship. There were only twelve present this time and THE CHAMPION was called upon to swell the number to fourteen. Of course, during this extremely hot spell the Poehlers have had extraordinary demands made upon them, but they have been able to meet all demands. All orders for parties and picnics are promptly met. Poehler's are ready for you, at any and all times.

Julius Faulkner, white, and Will Porter, colored, of North Atchison, had a quarrel yesterday noon at the corner of Eleventh and Mound streets over a cigarette, which resulted in the former being stabbed in the left side with a pen knife by the latter. Kansas City and return at one fare for the round trip via the Missouri Pacific railway. Tickets on sale August 20 to 25, good for return until August 81, 1892, on account of the supreme lodge and biennial encampment of Uniform Rank Knights of Pythias. A crowd of Italians were in the city yesterday making music on the street corners and telling fortunes for the nickles there was in it. They had 8 hand organ that played some of the finest pieces in the land.

Miller's restaurant is for sale, and will be sold by September 1. Reason for sale is that Mr. Miller on that date takes pos. session of the Byram hotel. S.

F. Stoll, the druggist, sells all kinds of homeopathic medicines. Drink beer at Allen's, the druggist. A complete stock of homeopathic dies at S. F.

The real estate men of the city say that the inquiry for real estate is increasing in a satisfactory manner. You can tell when a summer widower's wife returns home -the grass and weeds are mowed down and the premises fixed up. Leroy Reynolds was arrested last night for drunk and vagrancy. Tom Lanier was also locked up fer being drunk and resisting an officer. The Atchison base ball club will play the celebrated New York female base ballists at the new fair grounds, on South Tenth street, Thursday afternoon.

A son of Stilson, the milk man, fell through the front window of Earhart's store yesterday while trying to ride velocipede and cut his hand and arm. Geo. W. Simonds drug store, at the corner of Fourth and Commercial streets, will be open all day today. Special attention given to compounding prescriptions.

Dr. Francis Marion Loper of Atchison received a letter today from Dr. Francis Marion Loper of Monticello, Ark. It sppears that the two Drs. Francis Marions are cousins.

The body of Jimmie Kelley arrived from New York city yesterday forenoon. The funeral will take place from the family residence at 2 p. today to St. Benedict's church. The case of the state vs.

Wm. Kennedy, in Justice Talbott's court, on a charge of stealing money, was dismissed yesterday on application of Fannie Ganter, the complaining witness. There WAS a heavy rain fell over the entire Central Branch territory from the western terminus of the road to Waterville yesterday. East of that point good showers fell reaching this county. A special train will leave Kansas City for Atchison at 11 August 23, which will enable everybody to see the parade of the Uniform Rank Knights of Pythias and the fireworks in the evening.

Will Kennedy, charged with assaulting Clem, appeared before Justice Shifflet yesterday and had his case continued until September 5. He gave the necessary bond for his appearance for trial on that date. Supt. Klopfenstein has received notice of the apportionment of the second semiannual division of the state school fund for 1892. Atchison county receives as its share $4,586.92.

Of this the city receives $2,314.52. Nannie Mabel, colored, eight-year-old daughter of Willis Tenniston, of South Atchison, died last evening of fever. She has been sick since the Fourth of July. Funeral today at 3 p. m.

Styles, south of union depot, for tickets and information. The letter from T. B. Gerow is the kind of reading well calculated to please the old veterans who wore the blue uniform of patriotic duty from '61 to '65. Mr.

Gerow made several speeches at the reunion 88 we learn from the Wichita papers, and they were full of fire and vigor as his speeches always are. During the epidemic of flux in this county last summer I had hard work to keep a supply of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Remedy on hand. People often came ten or twelve miles in the night to get a bottle of the remedy. I have been selling patent medicines for the past ten years and find that it has given better satisfaction in cases of diarrhea and flux than any other medicine I have ever handled. -J.

Allensworth elsewhere announces his candidacy for county attorney. Mr. Allensworth has been a resident of Atchison for twelve years and this is his first appearance in politics. He has no factions in his own party and a great many friends outside of it. As to his ability there can be no question.

In the Ogden murder case trial in this county 8 few years ago Hon. Thomas I P. Fenlon of Leavenworth, one of the leading criminal lawyers of the west, was associated with Mr. Allensworth for the defense. Concerning Mr.

Allensworth in his argument to the jury in that case Mr. Fenlon said "it would have done credit to an attorney of national reputation." Charley Styles has arranged for 8 special train on the Central Branch for the accommodation of the Knights of Pythias attending the encampment at Kansas City next week. The train will consist of a baggage car, one day coach, two chair cars and a Pullman. It will leave Stockton at 6 o'clock Monday evening and pass through Atchison at 5 a. m.

Tuesday. Mr. Styles will accompany the train. S. G.

Moore of Prosser, came in last evening on the Central Branch going to the Missouri Pacific hospital at Kansas City. Mr. Moore had the misfortune to get his right foot caught in a guide rail while doing some switching at Hastings, the day before and a car wheel crushed the flesby portion of his foot pretty bad. Frank Bonheim's drug store at the corner of Third and Commercial streets is becoming quite a popular place for ladies. The neatness and attractiveness of the store, the elegant summer drinks, phonograph and pleasant location all combined with Mr.

Bonheim's courtesy to all makes it a pleasant place to The Atchison Business College has received two applications during the past week for young men who can write shorthand and keep books, to take positions at excellent salaries. Itis stated as a fact that the demand for young men possessing these qualifications is greatly in excess of the supply. Only $5.15 to St. Louis via the Missouri Pacific railway.
