GROUSE — IOWA'S LARGEST DISTRIBUTION CARRIER IS CELEBRATING IT'S 21st YEAR IN CARROLL! 1976 marks the 21st year Grouse Cartage Company has been a part of the Carroll community. In 1955, when we moved to Carroll we had 35 employees and an annual payroll of about $175,000. The entire Crouse Cartage Company family now includes 430 employees and our total payroll this year will be $6,500,000, more than five and one-half million dollars bigger than when we moved to Carroll. KANSAS CITY CROUSE TRANSFER & STORAGE Grouse's Allied Van Lines Division, Crouse Transfer & Storage Company, a subsidiary of Crouse Cartage Co., specializes in long distance moving, including all points in the United States and Canada and interline to points overseas. The Allied Division's rolling stock includes two double vans (pictures at right), which are capable of holding twenty-five rooms of furniture. The firm is the largest Allied agent in Iowa and has the largest number of Allied Van Line branches in the nation. The branches are in Ames, Boone, Cherokee, Denison, Iowa City, Mason City and Storm Lake with the home office in Carroll. Crouse also has a 20,000 sq. ft. storage facility in connection with the Carroll terminal complex for both household goods and commercial storage. Crouse Transfer and Storage, Iowa's largest Allied agent, is your agent for the world's largest moving group, Allied Van Lines. ROUSE CROUSE FREIGHT SERVICE Overnight freight service is provided from Crouse terminals to 550 towns in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. The motor freight business began with six tractors, nine trailers and a pickup truck — and the business grossed $78,000 the first year. Today's operations are carried on with 205 tractors, 286 trailers, 56 straight trucks, 125 refrigerated trailer units, 31 cars, 16 detachable axles and five pieces of special equipment — and our gross revenue was approximately $13.7 million, the largest common carrier in the state.
