10 Oct. 6, 1949 Mason City Globe-Gazette, Mason City, la. North Iowa Airman Honored in Germany After 100 Missions Decorah —_At Airfield Rhine Mein, Frankfort, Germany, Capt. Ralph E. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Nelson, Decorah, was awarded the air medal of the U. S. air force, on the completion of 100 successful missions in Western Germany to Berlin, between Jan. 8 and June 16. in connection with "operation vittles." He was commended for maintaining precise timing in a narrow corridor against adverse weather conditions. In service from 1941 to 1946, Nelson re-enlisted in November, 1948. His wife and daughters joined him in Germany the past summer. Kunz, Jr., was elected president of the Cerro Gorrto county Dental society at a dinner meeting of the group held at Hotel Hanford Wednesday evening". Dr. R. E.
