Edition 12 THE COURIER JOURNAL, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1982 36 Help Wanted 36 Help Wanted 36 Help Wanted Three 10 more arrested, Passer-by scoops up money sought dropped by fleeing robber in drug cases The Courier-Journal Bureau FRANKFORT, Sixteen warrants alleging drug trafficking have been issued by the Kentucky State Police for 13 people in the Frankfort area. According to state police officials, warrants culminate a fourmonth undercover investigation. Five warrants involve felony charges, and the rest misdemeanors, the officials said. About 12 officers from the state police narcotics section and Post 12 were involved in the probe. Three men, all of Frankfort, were arrested early last night, an officer reported.

He identified them as Reggie Pippin, 33, charged with trafficking in cocaine, a felony; and David Lee Pierce, 31, and Charles Kelly, 44, both charged with trafficking in marijuana, a misdemeanor. State official pleads innocent to charge The Courier-Journal Central Kentucky Bureau LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. Rick Crawford, deputy secretary of the state Department of Corrections, pleaded innocent in Anderson District Court yesterday to a charge of driving on the wrong side of the road. A pre-trial conference in the case has been set for Feb. 18, and a jury trial has been tentatively scheduled for March 18, County Attorney Dale Wright said.

Crawford, 34, was charged in connection with a collision involving a state police cruiser in Anderson County on Jan. 22. 66-year-old woman jumps into icy river to save dog PORTLAND, Maine (AP) A 66- year-old woman was hospitalized for loss of body heat after jumping into an icy river to rescue her dog, authorities say. Mary Orr, of South Windham, was in satisfactory condition yesterday at Maine Medical Center, where she is being treated for hypothermia. Police said she was in the Pleasant River for at least 15 minutes Sunday trying to save the dog, which had fallen through the ice.

A fleeing bank robber dropped! his loot and escaped empty- yesterday, but an unidentified passerby helped himself to some of the money and got away before police arrived. Louisville police Sgt. James Griffiths said other bystanders also might have helped themselves to some of the money, but three Coast Guardsmen on their lunch break stepped in and held the money until police and FBI agents arrived. The robbery occurred about 11:30 a.m. at the Bank of Louisville branch at 626 W.

Broadway, Griffiths said. He said a man who indicated he was armed handed a teller a note demanding money and fled with an undetermined amount of cash. As the man ran north across Broadway, a dye bomb in the bag exploded and he dropped the money near the corner of Seventh Street and Broadway, Griffiths said. Coast Guardsman Doug Sanford said he and fellow guardsmen Mark Yost and Butch Fentress were walking up Seventh Street on their way to lunch when they saw the man drop the money bag with red smoke pouring out. Sanford said one man scooped up a couple of handfuls of bills, jumped in a car and drove off down Broadway.

He said several other people were picking up money until the guardsmen stepped in and stopped them. "It was quite a bit of money," Sanford said. "We stuffed our pockets full of bills and handed them over to police when they arrived." Griffiths said the man who helped himself to the robbery money will face charges of receiving stolen property and tampering with physical evidence. Also yesterday, Jefferson County police reported that a man robbed the United Kentucky Bank branch at 4940 Poplar Level Road about 4 p.m. The man displayed no weapon and was last seen fleeing from the bank, on foot, police said.

Evansville police, volunteers search for missing 12-year-old EVANSVILLE, Ind. About 50 policemen and volunteers began massive search yesterday for 12- year-old Michele Lee Pace, who has been missing since last Tuesday. "We do feel foul play is definitely involved," said Evansville police inspector Richard Tenbarge. "We are probably 80 percent sure of that." Six teams of off-duty police officers, civil-defense volunteers and county police are searching specific areas of the city, beginning with the neighborhood of the youngster's home. "We want to cover the area very thoroughly," Tenbarge told the searchers.

"Don't pass up anything a garage, a shed, a vacant building or a piece of cardboard in a lot. Look underneath it." In spite of a weekend of searching for clues, police have learned little about the seventh-grader's disappearance from her home last Tuesday night. The only indication of foul play police have uncovered is a report from a neighbor that she heard what she thought was a scream for help on the night of the child's disappearance. Wanda Pace reported her daughter missing shortly after coming home from work about 11 p.m. Man is arraigned in killing of girl A Louisville man charged with killing Sherri Lynn Garrett, 14, by pouring chloroform on her bedclothes pleaded innocent yesterday.

Earl W. Goggins, 32, of the 1600 block of Cypress Street, was arraigned on the murder charge in Jefferson Circuit Court. He is out of jail on $20,000 bond. Goggins was a boarder at the home of the girl and her mother at 2118 Magazine St. Tests at the state's toxicology laboratory determined that Miss Garrett died of an overdose of chloroform, a powerful anesthetic.
