Cancer Society Will Hold Annual Session The Cerro Gordo county chapter of the American Cancer Society will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Wedgewood room of Hotel Hanford at 8 p. m., it was announced by Mrs. Hughes Bryant, county chairman. Speaker at the meeting will be Dr. Addison Brown, Des Moines, who will talk on "What You Can Do About Caancer." It is hoped to have present at the meeting 2 representatives from each organization in the city and county in order that they in turn can take back to their, group information in the education line. The in-service committee headed by Dr. John Darling of the society met on Tuesday and decided on the purchase of 2 hospital beds for use in the county. The beds are being paid for through the "loan closet" which has been accumulating for some time. Award Contract for Worth County Shed Northwood—At a letting at the Worth county courthouse, Leo Dralla of Northwood was awarded the contract" for building a new county shed for housing county highway maintenance vehicles and a maintenance shop. The new building of block construction is to be erected on the 7( acres of land which the county owns at the gravel pit in the southeast part of town. Mr. Dralla's bid was $8,996.56. Other bidders were the Henkel Construction company of Mason City, Whitney Kendall of Northwood and Leslie Nelson of Northwood. The shed is to be one story high 80 by 40 feet in dimensions. The county has owned the land for several years, originally used for a gravel' pit. The gravel is practically exhausted. The contract calls for completion by July 15, 1950. Adds Equipment Garner—Several new pieces of equipment have recently been added to the Garner Roller Mills according to Hilary Greiman, owner and manager. A 26-inch, 60 horsepower feed grinder replaces the old 24-inch, 50 horsepower machine. A new grading cylinder now is being installed and a new seed treater will be installed shortly, which will double the linn's capacity for seed-treating. Attend Conference Joice—The Rev. Joseph Aarhus of Huxley, the Rev. E. L. Reisem of Guckeen, Minn., both former pastors of the Bethel Lutheran Brethren church south of Joice; Andrew Amelien of Joice, member of the Bible Camp Board and treasurer of the eastern district of the Lutheran Brethren church; the Rev. Orvin Thompson of Lake Mills; and the Rev. A. E. Nuhus of Faribault, Minn., left Monday to attend a pastoral conference of the L. B. C. being held this week at the Lutheran Bible School at Fergus Falls, Minn. Annountes Play New Hampton — Miss Maud Tucker, dramatic instructor, announces the junior class play, "Mother Was a Freshman," will be presented Nov. 8. Change Postmasters Waucoma — Charlie E. Lynch, postmaster, and sister, Miss Stella Lynch, clerk, have checked out after serving for 22 years. The acting postmaster, Matthew J. Blong, and clerk, Joseph Scallon, are on hand as helpers of Uncl Sam.
