GOOD BASEBALL FOR^COVINA Summer League Wants Fast Local Team in Organization. It begins to look as if Manager Covert's dreams of big baseball activities io Covina would coinc true. Daring the week letters and telephone messages bare been received from the directois of the Southern California Summer League, urging Coviua to come in and make the sixth olnb of the organization. Jas. P. McCormick is president and Red Perkins, of tbe Herald, is the secretary of the league. The latter has watohed the development of a fast ball team in Covina with interest, and has never failed to give a well merited boost through the sport- iiifl column of the city paper. If tbe Covina directors see fit, and if the players desire to go into organized ball, no doubt Coviua will join. Manager Covert will attend a meeting of the league in Los Angeles on Monday night. He will work to secure continuous baseball on the home grounds if possible, as the gate receipts are larger out here, than in the city, where the coast league teams are in action. The following are the clubs already in: Mairs, Woodill & Hulse, Mc- Cormicks, Edisons, Santa Ana, and Covina, if the local magnates see fit. The season commences April 4, and closes July 18. All the teams here have played an excellent quality of ball during the past mouths, and should furnish good contests during the summer. Jupiter Pluvius was in evidence last Sunday and the Ascot Athletics, not being a gum-shoe aggregation, failed to appear. If it doesn't rain tomorrow the same team will furnish opposition for the orange belt sluggers. Either Fairly or Wicker will be used in the box position. The latter is a heaver with a good record, who has just been signed. Bradley will catch. Place your spare cash in the Covina Valley Savings Bank, a safe investment at 4 per cr>nt.
