THE-TERRE HAUTE STAR, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1950. 17 Fire Destroys Farm Home, 21 Pets Perish PARIS, Dec. the 21 pets of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Propst, including two dogs, six puppies, nine cats, two pigs, a rabbit and a chicken, perished in a fire that destroyed a three-story dwelling! an Edgar County landmark on the Busey farm near Grandview, southwest of Paris.

Mr. Propst, who estimates the damage at $6,000, partially covered by insurance, did not discover the midnight fire until the kitchen, enclosed porch and three outbuildings, all adjoining had fallen, and the dining room walls were about to collapse. Dec. Butcherliogs today at the local yards werTrteady to 25c higher than yester- average in fairly active dealings. Choice 170 to 240-pound barrows and at $18 to.S18.50. Several hundred head of choice No. 1 and 2 mostly below 225 pounds, brought $18.60 to of 240 to 280 pounds ranged ffonT to uniform near 240 Sounds to S1B.75.

Those of 280 to 310 Sounds sold at $17 to $17.50. Pigs of 120 to 160 pound, rated at $15.50 to Slfl.50. a few at the heavier end to SIT. Sows were about steady with choice 300 to 550-pounders going at S15.2S to $16.25, choice lightweights to $16 JO. Extreme heavies sold at $15 or less.

All slaughter classes of cattle were active. Steers of 1,150 pounds and less and medium to good strong to 50c higher. The majority of good grade steers of 1,150 pounds and less sold at $31.50 to $32.50. A couple of loads of good, near 1.300 pounds were held around $32. Medium and low-good ranged from $29 to $31.50.

Common to meaium mixed native yearlings brought $24 to $30. Small lots of good grade heifers sold at $31 to $32 with bulk medium grades at $27.25 to $30. Cows were strong to 25c higher. Slaughter ewes held at $9 $15. CHICAGO' LIVESTOCK CHICAGO, Dec. turned strong to 25c higher today on the basis of curtailed receipts from the country. Cattle and sheep were mostly steady to 25 cents higher. Offering of 15,000 hogs for sale was 4.000 fewer than expected by the trade.

Clearance was good on them at $17.73 to $18.50 generally for butcher weights of barrows and gilts. One load made the top of $18.60. Sows brought $15.00 to $17.00. Most high-medium to choice steers and yearlings ranged from $28.50 to $36.00. but choice and choice to prime material, amounting to six loads, went on to $37.50 to $38.00.

Good and choice fed heifers were $32.00 to $35.00. Beef cows topped at $23.00, sausage bulls at $28.25, and choice vealers at $33.00. Ted wooled lambs topped at $31.75, with most getting $31:00 to $31.75. Most shorns were $28.75 to $29.25, Fall-shorns going on to $29.50 and Summer-shorns to $30.00. Ewes topped at $16.75.
