I'oinl Increases on Some Washington, Sept, 16 (/P) — The Office of Price Administration tonight ordered sharp Increases in point values for those processed foods still rationed u» a companion move to elimination of points on a wide variety of other canned foods. Both the higher points and renewal of many items from rationing are effective Sunday. Doubled or boosted even more sharply in most cases, the new point, values apply to all canned and bottled fruits, four Irult and vegetable | juices, tomatoes, catsup, and chili 'sauce. The new ration value on a num- er two can of tomatoes is 20 points, vp from 5, while the coupon cost of peach££._pcar3... and pineapple— liked from 43 pointsto 80 for num- ber two and one half cans. Pineapple Juice goes to 50 points from 15 and tomato juice to 20 from 6 points for ia-ounce cans. All ol the new values are fixed in multiples of ten because the system of blue tokens as ration change is being discontinued Sunday. Blue tokens may be used in units of ten until October 1 in buying processed foods. After that they will have no value. As announced 'earlier, processed foods being removed from rationing are all jams, Jellies, fruit butters, asparagus, lima beans, corn, peas, pumpkin and squash, mixed vegetables, baked beans, tomato sauce, paste and puree, and all varieties of soups and baby foods. Other vegetables except tomatoes have been ratloiv-free for some time. To Get 59 Points Monthly In announcing .the new ration values, effective through September 30, OPA Admtosltrator Chester Bowles said: "These point values are higher not because of a change in the supply picture of commodities remain- under-raUoning T Jmt because of the removal fi-om rationing of near- >• all vegetables, special products and fruit spreads. "The War Food Administration's allocation of processed foods still rationed has not changed. What has changed is the point purchasing power x x x." Under the new setup housewives will continue to get SO blue points a month. Red point values on meats, bu and dairy products are Unchn n g ed J However, combination spagh dinners, • formerly on the proc food chart, are being shifted to red point chart, with a one-po value for cartons containing from one to one and one half ounces or! grated cheese.
