The six-furlong sprint features a meeting of Mrs.

Bernard P. Bond's Clever Foot, recent winner of the Pimlico and Francis Scott Key stakes, in Maryland, and Elmendorf Farm's Verbatim, who captured the Bahamas before failing in the Everglades and Flamingo at Hialeah in Florida. Both Eligible for Derby Both are eligible for the Derby at Churchill Downs on May 4. So are Larking Hill Farm's Game Effort and Hobeau Farm's Conceited of the Swift field. Clever Foot and Verbatim were bred in Kentucky.

Game Effort and Conceited are Florida-breds. Despite the presence of this quartet, favoritism in the Swift be accorded to Laughing Bill, an unbeaten a colt who holds a recent triumph over Conceited. Juvenile John, who has been challenging Clever Foot other events, Irish Chief and Sea Fable also regarded as threats. Others entered are Czar Alexander and Turn Off.
