Hudson The first Christian Church 'at 600 West Main in Blytheville was organized in the fall of 1904. At that time a group met in a hall above what was then the Blytheville Supply Company to organize a Bible School. After a. short \yhile the group moved to the Courthouse for its services until the present location was secured arid the first building erected in 1906 and 1907. The present building was begun in 1946 and dedicated in 1951 upon complete retirement of all indebtedness. . A complete roster of charter members is not in existence but it is known that among them were Mrs. J. W- Bader, the I. 0. Westbrook family arid H. R. Brandon. In 1905 Rev. James H. Brooks was called as the first pastor of the then young congregation. Down through the years the following ministers have served tenures of varying lengths: George Duffy, J. Murray Taylor, A. P. Cameron, Howard Peters, E. C. Chambers, E. W. Sears, Paul Marsh, E. K. Latimer; V. E. .Butterworth, George W- Patterson, Carroll B. Cloyd, Francis Srriythe, R. S. Baird, Lester Strubhar. James W- Rainwater, Russell C. Brown, Wayne Davis, and John B. White. The church has traditionally been a part of what is now SCOTTY'S CAR & TRUCK RENTAL SERVICE SCOTTY'S PURE TRUCK STOP South Hwy- 61 At Interstate 55 - PO 3-71W a world-wide fellowship of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ). As a locally autonomous congregation the church cooperates voluntarily in work with other like congregations in state, national and world-wide work. As stated in its constitution: "The purpose of this church .shall be revealed in the New Testament, to win people to • faith, in Jesus Christ and commit them actively to the church, to help them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ that increasingly they may know and do His will, and to work for the unity of all Christians and with them engage in the common task of/building the Kingdom of God." Although the church is not large it carries on a well- rounded program in an effort to minister as much as possible to as many as possible. There are worship services with the observange of Communion every Sunday. There is a Sunday Church School with'classes for all ages. In music there are three choirs, Cherub, Junior and Cancel. Auxiliary organizations include active Christian Women's Fellowship, Christian Men's Fellowship, and Christian Youth Fellowship groups. This church has a reputation for being "friendly" and would like to extend a cordial invitation to attend to everyone in the Blytheville vicinity. Charles T. Hudson is now pastor and began his ministry on March 1, 1968. FARMERS BANK & TRUST CO.
