Sec. and Supt. An Interesting Seance. Miss Sawyer and Mr. Burke, two materializing mediums from St.

Louis, gave a very interesting private seance at the residence of Mr. J. J. Leapson, corner of Seventh and Riley streets, last niht. There were present Mesdames Crall, Holland, Heaman, Earhart, Woodard and Al-lings; and Drs.

Holland and Lanphear, and Messrs II. Solomon, Davis and Chas. Shoup. A cabinet was arranged in one corner of the room, and into this Miss Lawyer was securely tied by Drs. Holland and Campbell.

Then spirit forms appeared, ghostly hands were seen, Jesse James was summone i from the vastly and aj- peared to the astonished spectators, and all this time the medium was securely tied in the cabinet The voice of little Maud, her familiar spirit, was heard at intervals, but her fairy form was not seen. The seance was both interesting and wonderful to those present, and will be repeated this evening, when an admission fee of $1.00 will be charged. A Blessing to all Mankind. Joe Thompson, a colored" mau, was found guilty of grand larceny in the District Court. He robbed a man some time ago in the negro dive on Commercial street He divided the steal with a woman named Fanny Brown, who immediately left the city. Officer Taylor went to Kansas City after her, on Tuesday to testify against Thompson. This morning Jack Slaughter, another colored man, will be tried for complicity in the same case.

Binkley and Shaw, two well-known farmers of Mount Pleasant town ship, ere in the city, yesterday, on their way home from Bolckow, where Mr. Binkley purchased of Hayzlett Brown, breeders of pure-bred Poland-China sw ine. a remarkably line boar, and Mr. Shaw secured a pair of the same breed of pigs Messrs. Binkley and Shaw regard their purchases as about the finest stock ever brought to this section of the State.

Chang Lee, a Chinaman who follows the laundry business in Atchison, has been victimized by a brother Celestial living in St. Joseph. Chang formerly did business iu St. Joseph, and while there loaned $150 to his friend, ho came to Atchison last week and paid the debt in Missouri de fense warrants, which were worthless. When Chang discovered this fact he vowed vdigeance against his false friend, and will hunt for him till he effects a more sat isfactory settlement of the debt.

The First Baptist church of this city reaffirmed, at a recent and remarkably full meeting for special business, the call extended, some three yea-s ago, by them, to Rev. J. W. Luke, as their Pastor. Mr.

Luke, at the close of business, tendered his resignation as Pastor, to take effect the ISth of September, the close of his third pastoral year. This was made the occa sion of this new call. Any opposition which may have existed was withdrawn, and the call was made unanimous. The church unanimously voted to prosecute the church building enterprise ith the present plans and subscription paper, and appointed B. P.
