THURSDAY MORNING, AUGUST 3, 1967 Channel Chuckles Today's Television Programs I Bill Ladd's TV Almanac WE AS Color Must Await Upcoming Move system for watching television we might be able to hook up, head-to-head, again. DesUu, Paramount Firm Merge The Desilu company has merged with Gulf and Western, a company which also owns Paramount Pictures. 2i I Although WHAS-TV has color cameras, no color shows are done from the studios for three reasons: There is no space in the present studios for the extra equipment needed.

Colorcasting would require rewiring the present studios and replacing all the sets to make them color compatible. It just isn't economically feasible to do all this for the few months remaining before the station moves into its new building. This answers one question from an old bowling pal, Eddie Zabel. Eddie is laid up, has a color set and has asked several questions which may have disturbed others. His second question is: Why are some movies which open with a credit line saying "color by" shown in black and white? Made Especially for TV The answer to that one is simple.

The WHAS brass would like to know that, too, but I believe they are now talking about shortly after the first of the year. Originally they were supposed to be there now. Call 454-7440 583-5545 Special to The Courier-Journal DETROIT A 30-hour workweek, which has been predicted for America's future, will mean an increasing need for park and recreation space, Charlie Vettiner, director cf the Jefferson County park system, said here yesterday. Speaking at the convention of the National Association of Counties at Detroit's Cobo Hall, Vettiner said that 40 years ago the nation had a 70-hour workweek. "Now this week is 40 hours," Vettiner said. "The best authorities tell us that when the constructive power of the atom is properly exploited, this 40-hour workweek may be cut to 30 hours." Vettiner said this prediction means that "leisure time is our problem and it must be used wisely in parks and recreation centers." The parks director urged the nation's counties to plan now for the future demand of park space.
