He will probably remain in Fresno to complete his senior year in high school. If not he would be an asset to North, South or Sheldon High teams next spring.

Attending a recent tournament with his son, Chuck was surprised to see an old friend behind the pro shop counter Elliott "Little Abner" Wilson, former Oregon football center. Wilson, who sells Wilson golf equipment throughout the Salinas Valley, was just helping out. Elliott now makes his home in Salinas. Mallory informs that another ex-Webfoot of 1940s vintage, who was not an athlete, is Franklin Miculi, television executive in the San Francisco area who is part owner of the San Francisco 49ers football club and the Warriors basketball team. It is interesting to note that football season ticket sales for the University of Washington's home games are now over 27,000 and that the WSU game has been sold out since late June.

That's the reason I mentioned, during the recent Big Six Conference series, that Washington has been "supporting" other conference members through football revenue in Seattle. Home games for the Huskies in Seattle, in addition to the WSU game Nov. 23, will be Iowa Oct. 5, Oregon State Oct. 12.

Stanford Oct. 19 and USC Nov. 2. Washington plays Oregon in Portland Oct. 26.

Washington's home games in Seattle last year averaged more than 50.000. ing throughout Oregon. But Paul quit the University of Oregon after his sophomore year. He didn't retire from Canadian football until 1950 at the ripe age of 33. In 1938 Rowe played for the Calgary Bronks.

Then, after serving with the Canadian Army as a captain in the 2nd Division Artillery in England and Europe for three years, returned to Canada and football. In 1948 the Calgary team won the coveted Grey Cup, only to lose it to the Montreal Alouettes the next season. Iiowe didn't divorce football following his retirement in 1950. He helped organize a "Mighty Mite" league that is expected to eventually produce enough Canadian football talent for the Canadian Football League without recruiting players from United States colleges. Paul, who married a Calgary girl, Vivian Maguirc.

has a family of football fans if not future stars. Barry is 17, Bobby Junior 15, and Virginia 6. They're all interested in Canadian football and the Grey Cup the ex-Wcb-foot helped win the same year Oregon won the Pacific Coast Conference championship and lost to SMU on quick kicks. ir One of my early-day track-and-field "form prog- Chuck Mallory, has returned to Eugene where in the 1940s he was a University of Oregon student Chuck, in the radio and television business at Bakersfield, and later in Fresno, is now associated with KEZI-TV. Len Casanova and other members of the Oregon staff will tell you the quick kick is a defensive rather than an offensive weapon. By employing the quick kick you lose possession of the ball. Of course everyone realizes ball control is vital and it's difficult to score without the ball. Nevertheless I can recall two quick kicks by Southern Methodist that may have had little to do with U's 21 points, but certainly prevented Oregon from scoring more than 13 in the Cotton Bowl classic in Dallas, New Year's Day of 1940. In that game first Doak Walker and then Kyle Rote booted tremendous quick kicks that kept the Wobfoots back on their heels.

The Webfoots, coached by the late Jim Aiken, never recovered. Back in 1937, when Prink Callison was coach of the Web-' foots, he possessed a 6-1, 191-pound fullback by the name of Paul Rowe, a native of Victoria, B.C. Because of his experience with English rugby, Paul was a trcmndous quick-kick expert, booting on the run. Crucial Eugene errors gave Lewiston a pair of 5-4 Northwest League basoball triumphs Sunday night as miscues gave the Broncs the winning run in both contests. Winding up a four-game series and set to open at Tri-City tonight, the Emeialds committed six errors in the double-header. Five were in the finale. A dropped throw gave Lewis-ton what turned out to be the winning margin in the fifth inning of the opener, then a dropped fly in the sixth inning of the nightcap did it again. This time pinch-hitter John Stutz lofted the fly that right fielder Dennis Lundgren dropped and wound up on second base, then went to third on an infield out and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Emeralds, who got five homers in the first two games of the series, got another in the first game. This was a solo shot by Lundgren in the second inning, his third drive in three games and each in the same frame.
