Agrees To Conduct Hearings By MARSHALL McNEIL XmlS-Pni Waikliilaa rtnamliri WASHINGTON June Protests of New Mexicans and others have forced postponement perhaps until next fall of the Army'i plana to won't explsin precisely why It needs this additional land Testing Grounds The presumption la that the Army thinks It needs it to provide testing grounds for better and bigger anti-aircraft guided missies that have much greater rsnge The law requires that even though the Army hqe been authorised to acquire such land and has been given in appropriation to do so it must still get the approval of the Armed Services Commltteqg of the House and Senate Dempsey said that the Senate Armed Services Committee had agreed to lnvesligele the need for thie proposed land acquisition in hearings to be held in New Mexico It will not do so however until Congrea adjourns That would appear to mean that the Senate Committee could not get around to okehing the acquisition even if wanted to do so before aome time In the late summer or fall To jlold Hearings The House Armed Services Committee has promised Dempsey that it also will send investigators to New Mexico end hold hearings on the ground These probably will be held at Alamogordo at some time yet to be fixed by Representative Dewey Short Armed Services chairman Dempsey said that normally In such land acquisitions the Government gets end retains the mineral rights but ha doesn't want that done in this case Moreover he apparently wants some new and better method for appraising the lend otherwise ho fears the owners will be cheated arrange for co-use leases on about 130270 additional acres of land It would not acquire the land outright but would lease it and use it requiring private users to move only when anti-aircraft or guided missile firinp were taking place Egyptian Predicts Pharaoh's Tomb To Yield Jewelry United Prtm CAIRO Egypt June Egyptian Archaeologist Zakaria Gboneim said today ha expects to find the crown
