Husband John Travol- ta puckers up like nobody else, the actress who played Tom Cruise's girlfriend in "Jerry Maguire" and once lived with George Clooney says in the June issue of Redbook. "He's got the most squishy, delicious lips, I swear," said Preston, 35. "They are dreamy! They are just ... you get drunk on them. He's the best kisser I've ever kissed." The actress with credits including "Addicted to Love," "Twins," "Nothing' to Lose" and "Citizen Ruth" rated Cruise as a good kisser in their "Jerry Maguire" sex scene, a part of the film that was easier for her to make than it was for her husband to take. !, Rocker sues to block porno LOS ANGELES — Porno for Pyros lead singer Perry Farrell wants to burn some amateur pornography featuring him and his girlfriend. Grisham advises graduates HATTIESBURG, Miss. — John Grisham's advice to recent graduates is "leave the country." Speaking at the University of Southern Mississippi on Friday, the author of "The Firm" and "A Time to Kill" was promoting volunteerism overseas, not a permanent exodus to foreign shores. "Pack up your bags and go someplace where you are needed, where you, (Jan help people," Grisham said. "Just go for'a year or two." Those who do may learn that the United States isn't so bad compared to other countries, he said, and in terms of official corruption, overseas experience might show that "the boys in Washington are amateurs compared with the rest of the world." ; From Wire Service Reports T ADVICE Organization provides compassion for the dying Dear Readers: If you are looking for a laugh today, you won't find it here. What you will find is a letter that could make a big difference in the way you think ahout terminal illness, should you or someone close to you be faced with it. I hope you will find this column informative and helpful. Dear Ann Landers: Several years ago, you were kind enough to print a letter from our organization, Compassion in Dying, regarding our work with the terminally ill and their families. The response was overwhelm- *" ing. We received more than 9,000 letters of encouragement and many generous donations to help us continue with our work. Compassion in Dying provides counseling and support related to end-of-life ANN LANDERS Creators Syndicate Inc. choices. We believe dying individuals should be permitted to make their own end-of-life decisions and terminally ill individuals who request a hastened death should be offered assistance. Our primary work involves personal counseling, emotional support and assistance to terminally ill adults who wish to end their suffering in a safe, humane, non-violent .manner. We continue to follow strict guidelines, and our services are offered at no charge. We have come to see the importance of choice for dying patients and their families. Perhaps I can illustrate how critical this choice is by citing an example: Mark was a 43-year-old man suffering the final stages of cancer. At the advice of his hospice nurse, his wife called our office after Mark begged her to buy a gun so he could end his suffering. He was confined to a bed, hooked up to a respirator, a feeding tube and a catheter. Over the next few days, with the cooperation of his TV TONIGHT personal physician, Mark obtained medications with which to end his suffering if he chose to do so. He never did. Four months later, his wife called to say Mark had died a quiet death that morning in her arms. Through her tears, she asked me to thank our volunteers for their assistance and told me that from the moment Mark was given the power of choice, he never spoke of suicide again. Please let your readers know of our continuing work to provide end-of-life options for the terminally ill, — John Lee, Compassion in Dying of Washington Dear John Lee: Thank you for your letter. For readers who are interested in more information, write to: Compassion in Dying of Washington, 410 E. Denny Way, Suite 108, Seattle, Wash. 98122-2172 www.compassionindying.org Dear Ann Landers: I am writing about the letter from "Anonymous in Missouri" who wants to commit suicide rather than wind up in a nursing home: I agree with her. My mother, a sweet little lady of 84, was in a nursing home after my father died unexpectedly. She needed round-the- clock care and supervision. The nursing home was the best we could find, and "yet it was exactly as "Anonymous" Described. Mom begged me daily to kill .her. Our last conversation went like this: "Please help me. You can do it. We've always loved each other and promised to help each other. I need you." And I said, "Mom, I can't do it. They'll put me in jail." Her bright blue eyes burned holes in my soul. She replied, "Then go to jail." Three days later, she died. I loved my mother dearly, and we were very close. I ache with sorrow and shame that I could not do the one last thing she asked of me. — Altamonte Springs, Fla.
