It is doubtful if any city of its size in America possesses n more talented and altogether charming aggregation else it the climactic passages. But there was, after all, a superb division of contraltos, and a finely manual body of mule voice*. As previously stated by the Argus it \VIIH a chorus thai held no dead wourl. every individual being a' potent unit in the tonnl total. The soloists of tlic evening Mr-i. The splendid house which greeted the performance is also ample prooC that such music is appreciated here. The oratorio consisted of chorus work, solos, trios and quarte'.s. No such thoroughly trained chours has been heard in Covina before. True it was slightlv overbalanced, as the —"sopranos, augmented by such singers as Mrs. McLaughlin, Mrs. Stevens, and, Mrs. Whitsel, gave a brilliant volume of sound that obscured all numbers Mrs. McLaughlin'K rendition "These are They," revealing a voice of wondrous sweetness and great range. The work by the other sopranos needs 110 comment ns they ave ail well known to our readers. Mr. Wells has a splendid bass voice, which he handles with vigor and niusiciauly judgment, and with a good tone quality. Mr. Tompkins, in his heavy tenor part, sang with sentiment and expressive feeling, and measured up well to the intelligent demands of the assigment. Miss Feru Bitrtrnm, in her contralto solos, revealed a beautifully trained voice and was much apprecitaed. Mr. Mo- Allen and Mrs. Whitsel also fully sustained their parts. A pleasing feature was the faultlessly played nc- cotnpaniments bf Mrs. John Brnnjes on the piano assisted by Mr. Hubert Philleo, on tho violin. The stage, which was beautifully decorated, was the handiwork of Mrs. C. H. Kistler and her daughter, Miss Jessie. Miss Welch is certtainly to bo congratulated on this finished production and its success has been such that by request it will bo repeated in tho First Presbyterian Church of this city, on Sunday (tomorrow) evening, taking the place of the regular evening service.
