Freshly-cut branches were scattered around the ditch apparently in an effort to hide the hody, police said. Robert Needham, a ranger at the state park, said the "body was partly clothed, and the head was battered." Police said articles of the vic- ti i's clothing and personal belongings were found strewn nround the area. Tire tracks were found leading from a nearby road to the body.
