(AP) — The Crawford County sheriff's office said an investigation was continuing Thursday into what the office termed "an apparent murder and suicide." Sheriff Bill Vickery said Jim Ridenhour, 54, of Mountainburg was shot three times in the head with a .22-caliber rifle. Lloyd Wakefield, 22, of Chester apparently shot himself once in the head, Vickery said. Wakefield was taken to a Fort Smith hospital where he died Thursday afternoon. The shootings occurred at the home of Wakefield's mother, Loretta. Vickery said Ridenhour was a boarder in the Wakefield home. He said Mrs. Wakefield and her daughter, Brenda Wakefield, 17, both of Mountainburg, told him that Wakefield shot Ridenhour after- arriving at the Wakefield home about 6 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Wakefiled told Vickery that after her son shot Ridenhour, he attempted to shoot her. Vickery quoted Mrs. Wakefield as saying she hid in a closet and "pretended to be dead" to avoid being shot. After shooting Ridenhour and attempting to shoot her, Mrs. Wakefield said her son went into the front yard and shot himself, Vickery said. Behind every successful man there stands a line of people waiting to step into his shoes. Counting chickens before they're hatched is strictly for optimists. April showers brought May (lowers which will pollinate and bring June hay lever. Some retired types spend more time io the shop than when they were here.
