at the Fairgrounds. The Long Beach bus company is a nonprofit corporation formed recently by group of citizens to purchase and operate the bus system. The voters approved a tax to finance the new operation and the City of Long Beach bought the real property of the bus system and leased it to the corporation for $1 a year. Mary Chess, Ex-Perfume Maker, Dies Mrs. Avery Robinson, a native Louisvillian who created a multimillion dollar perfume firm under her maiden name of Mary Chess, died at 5 p.m.

Saturday in Hillerest Hospital, Pittsfield, Mass. She was 85. She suffered a heart attack Friday at her New Lebanon, N. Y. home.

She retired from her business in 1957. Mrs. Robinson began her perfume business in the kitchen of her New York City apartment in 1932 while recovering from an illness. Sold In 350 Stores At one time her perfumes were sold in some 350 stores in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She also created bouquets of metal flowers, some of which were purchased by the late Queen Mary of England.

Mrs. Robinson was a celebrated Louisville belle in the 1880's. After her marriage she lived at Boxhill, on River Road. She moved to England in the 1920's before returning to New York City in the 1930's. Her father was the late W.

E. Chess, head of Chess Wymond Cooperage Company. Her full maiden name was Mary Grace Chess. Survivors include her husband, also a native Louisvillian and composer of the song "Water Boy;" a daughter, Mrs. Carley Dawson, Washington, D.C., and a grandson, Stephen Hawkins, professor at Choate School, Wallingford, Conn.

It was a bitter pill for deLesseps S. Morrison, the suave Kennedy Administration diplomat who resigned as Ambassador to the Organization of American States to make his third straight losing governor's race. With 1,934 of the 2,219 precincts reported, McKeithen had 425,595 votes to 398,386 for Morrison. Mrs. Blanche Long, widow of the late Governor and state campaign manager for McKeithen, predicted an ultimate victory of 10.000 to 20,000 She said Mcmargins Keithen "will make an Earl Long-type governor because he believes in the same emphasizing welfare programs.

The two candidates were roughly similar in their, approach to many problems raised in the campaign. Both were segregationists, but McKeithen hammered on the racial issue. The key was New Orleans, where Morrison was due to run strong. However, McKeithen figured he was winner if he could come out of the city with 50,000 votes. He got 53,000.

Twenty one Georgetown College students will complete their requirements for graduation at the close of the first semester, Dean Carl Fields announced Saturday. The Monday- night-only course is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at Butler, Durrett, Seneca, and Valley high schools and Jeffersontown Elementary School. The fee for the income-tax will $1.

Southern courses School, the County's only other adult-education center, will start the same course on February 3. Registration for the third adult-education semester will be this month. Adult-education director Lloyd Redman said registration the regular term will be from 7 to 9 p.m. January 20, 23, 27, and 30 at any of the centers or from January through 30 at his office the board building, 3332 Newburg Road. Registration by mail also may be made.

New Courses Added Added this term will be a course in reading, writing, and spelling for those who have never learned how. The class meets Monday and, Thursday nights from 7 p.m. for 18 weeks. The fee will be $25. Also offered will be general education courses for adults who have finished high school and want to work for certificates; credit various equivalency subjects, special interest and short term courses not for credit.

Special interest courses will 10 weeks. coursesmeet one snight a week for law for laymen, beginning and advanced sewing, tailoring, and income tax-will meet from four to six weeks. All other classes will meet two nights a week for 18 weeks. Fees range from $1 to $25. Civildefense courses will be free.

U.K. Dairy Scientist Elected Fellow Special to The Courier -Journal Lexington, Jan. T. R. Freeman, professor of dairy science at the University of Kentucky, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for The Advancement of Science.

Dr. Freeman, a native of West Plains, joined the U. K. faculty in 1948. He holds a bachelor's degree from Kansas State College, a master's from Oklahoma A.
