Mr. Campbell has completed his tour f assessing the township. We have noticed, that there is con siderable agitation in regard to irrigation in western Kansas and Colorado, and we see by the NKWS that one of the reasons why we want Hon. J. \V. ones for congress is that he is heart ily in favor of government aid in the development of this matter. I think it would be well for us to examine this matter and see what it means. We were told some time ago that we farmers raise too much grain, hence low prices. Government aid in building the Union PaciHc is now looked upon aB a steal. We contend that the government is out of its line when it talks of building railways and irrigating ditches. Wc who live in the lower valley of the Arkansas receive our water supply from the Arkansas river. Now suppose that all the western part of Kansas was cut lip with irrigating ditches, all tapping the river, what would be the effect on our water supply? The men who want irrigating ditches will tell you that it will have no effect on our water supply whatever. Many of the western counties ore now mostly owned by loan companies, and if they want ditches lot them build them People are impelled to certain action by public sentiment, and that very often is wrong, whieh I think is fully demonstrated in the recent clamor for the unlimited coinage of silver. Nearly every one in the south and west were calling for it, but that now has passed away and people want honest money I would like to hear from some one on the irrigation question as to what effect it would have on the water supply- syrup is very soothing to the throat id lungs."
