GIpJENVILLE, FRIDAY, JUNE 24,1949 1HB RECORD-ARGUS HOLLYWOOD COLUMN so Lonnie's Pet Pigeon By GENE HANDSACKER Hollywood, June McCallister, who hunted mountain lions in "The Big Cat," groomed mules in "Scudda Hoo, Scudda Hay," and herded sheep in "Thunder in the Valley," has a pet pigeon. It flew in the window of his apartment one hot day 10 months ago when the windows were open and there were no screens up. Came in along with the flies, and stayed. "It roosted on the living-room beams for a while," says Lon, who milked cows and fed chickens and a peacock in "The Red House." "It laid eggs there and on the floor. But I'm letting it sleep on the foot of my bed now, and it lays eggs there, too." Lon drove trotting horses in "Home in Handsokw Indiana" and is currently playing a jockey in "Story of Seablscuit." After so much screen association with animals, I suggested he must be allergic to all four-footed or feathered creatures.

But Lon said. "No. She waddles all over the apartment. She's so cute." He calls her simply "That's his lucky spoon and fork from a spaghetti dinner at the Blue Sky Inn!" DANCE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY to a popular orchestra We serve delicious spaghetti, steaks and chops and fish fries and banquets We cater to parties 3Ml. SOUTH OF GREENVILLE ON ROAD I8---TEL-9035R "Pigeon." Says she's well-behaved and cooperative in her personal habits.

Lon's getting a playmate for her soon. It's a plain alley kitten, and Lon thinks they'll get alone together all right. Quickies: Eleanor a pretty Red Cross nurse in "Chain Lightning." Be a pleasure to be sick with her fussing over-you Robert Young, currently toiling in "Baby Is Here," has sold a radio program, starring himself, for next fall. It's called "Father Knows Best" and, says Bob, "We're trying to give it the 'Ozzie and Harriet' flavor Talked to Billie Burke the day before her autobiography, "With a Feather on My Nose," hit the book stalls. Being a published author, says Billie is "terrible.

I wanted to go to Nome, rent an igloo, and stay there. I was terrified of, what I'd done." Flash from hhe "Chain Lightning" set: Bogart's and Bacall's baby boy, now 16 weeks old, crawls. "Also starting to reach out for things," Stephen Humphrey's proud dad reported Annoying Bogart affectation: shaking your hand with his left hand. Just call him "Slugger" Donald O'Connor. Few Sundays ago he climbed into a ring and boxed two rounds with Lightweight Champion Ike Williams.

"Ike said I could be a pro if I wanted to," Donald disclosed. ADAMSVILLE Phi Delta Class Meets at Andrews Home Here Mrs. Pannie Andrews and Mrs. W. B.

TWO OBSTACLES FACE US WIMBLEDON NETTERS London, June 24 Jack Bromwich and Czechoslovakia's Jaroslav Drobny look like the biggest stumbling blocks to an All-American semi-final in the Wimbledon tennis championships. These two Davis Cup veterans won yesterday in a fashion that was quite as impressive as the unbroken march of the United States' favored quartet.

Bromwich is seeded fifth, Drobny sixth. Bromwich, runnerup to Bob Falkenburg last year austed Eustace Pannin, the South Africa ace, 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. Drobny ousted Budge Patty of Los Angeles in a five-set nerve- tingler, 6-4, 6-8, 7-9, 6-0, 6-2. The durable Czech had a lot of energy and shots left when the Marathon was over. The United States' tennis titans- Ted Schroeder of La Crescenta, Pancho Gonzales and Frankie Parker of Los Angeles and Hollywood's Falkenburg moved forward but one fracture in their ranks was barely averted.

Falkenburg, the defending champion, had to rally in the fifth set to repulse Joseph Asboth of Hungary, 6-4, 7-5, 2-6, 0-6, 6-4.
