It's called "The Twelfth Rose" and it was written by Buddy Killen and Marvin Moore. Buddy recited its words to me a couple of month ago and even without music it made a strong Impressin. I'm poinjj to print the words here and for beat effect I'd suggest you read them slowly and aloud. Anderson THE TWELFTH ROSE How long bas it been since the first time I told you Tbtt my love would aways be true; 7 hit's when I sent you eleven red roses And told you the twelfth rose wts you. still feel the tears that I felt when I lost you When you married somebody new; That day sent you eleven red roses And told you the twelfth rose was you.

Now here we are in the same church again It's covered with flowers the way it was then; Time hasn't changed you, you still look the same, But now you can't hear me when I speak your name. And yet I can feel as I kneel here beside you That somehow my love come through; You'll know that I sent eleven white roses will you And told you the twelfth rose was you. There's no use discussing a ong like that Either you like It or you don't I did, and suspect a goodly number of deejays and record buyers will agree. Writing good songs is nothing hew for Buddy Killen although as vice president of Tree Publishing his main job is getting other people's songs record-td. "The Twelfth Rose" Is a case fn point.

Moore, who lives in New York, wrote the words and it had circulated hereabouts for some time when Archie saw it and brought it to Buddy, who made some revisions on the words, wrote the music and came The FINEST In TIUVISION DiiMont ls WYNNE TV and RADIO 1I0 CsllaHa M. J' HI) At S-Mfl ll BROAD IT wm -t -n up with what could be Archie's biggest hit. 'Forever' Biggest Hit Huaays biggest hit as a songwriter has been "Forever." which not long ago was high in the charts as sung by the Little Dippers. "Forever," Buddy admits, was a "beautiful accident" He originally wrote it as an instrumental and it was recorded as such by several groups. Then one night ho was recording with the Anita Kerr singers at Owen Bradley's studio. The session ended with 20 minutes to spare, so Buddy de cided to record "Forever" with eleven words he had written to go with it.

The Kerrs, because of contractual obligations, became the Little Dippers on "Forever." And, to Buddy's surprise, his instrumental became a vocal hit. For the Little Dippers' next release, "Be Sincere," some new singers were found, since the Kerrs are far too busy to lead a double life. Over 50 Songs Some of Buddy's other songs have been "Till You Come Back Again," which Eddy Arnold and Ferlin Husky recorded: Chet At-kin's new release, "Rainbow's End," for which he wrote the words and revised the music; and "Big Betty," a rock-and-roll tune that got a lot of play several months ago. Altogether, about SO songs he wrote or co-wrote have been recorded. Buddy sings, too.

This week he'll cut an album of some of his own songs and some standards, and he's had several singles out. But Buddy doesn't consider himself a singer. "All I know about singing," he says, "I learn Kadi MORNING 7:00 WSM Back to Bibls WLAC Cradle of Christianity WSIX Sunday In Hi Fl 7:15 WLAC Muslo on Deck 7:30 WSM Baptist Bible Hour WLAC Ch. of the First Born 7:45 WLAC Senator Gore 8:00 WSM Bible Class WLAC Church of Nazareno WSDC News-Sun In Hi Fl 1:30 WSM Report From Wash'ton WLAC Temple Baptist 9:00 WSM Protestant Hour WLAC F. The album will just be songs I like." Nor does he consider himself a songwriter. "I only write when the mood hits me. I concentrate on getting songs recorded for other people." Publishing Main Business For Buddy's main fascination is not singing, songwrit-ing or strumming, but the publishing business the hectic and highly competitive process of finding new material, sometimes rewriting it selling singers on songs and, finally, watching some of Tree's songs climb up the charts. Already this year about 20 of the firm's songs have made it into the charts, he says, and new possibilities come in every day. "Nothing ever happens the same way twice," ha says.

"You notice soma guy hanging around and you don't know who he is. Then you find out he's a writer with soma hit material or a real oooH singer. Then things begin to happen." Buddv came to Nashville from Florence, after he graduated from high school. His first job was as a side-man, playing bass with Jamup and Honey. "Then they disbanded," he recalls, "and I starved." But other jobs as a sideman followed, with.

Ray Price, George Morgan, Hank Williams and others. His first taste of the publishing business came about nine year ago when Tree began paying: him $10 to sing all night for demonstration records. Later Tree hired him as a general handyman at $33 a week. Lad Luck Smiled Tree's fortunes bettered and so did Buddy's.
