GREEmTLLE. FRIDAY. APRII, 17, 1959 Burgess Gets Call to Take Foiles 1 THE RECORD-ARGUS PAGE ELEVEN Spot (AP) streaks, even in a 154-game major league baseball schedule, are not to be taken lightly. But neither are they necessarily disastrous. Last year the Pittsburgh Pirates went through three 5-game losing streaks and one of 7 games.

Yet they finished second in the National League with room to spare. Fans worried by the Pirates' stumbling start in losing the first 5 games this season should take a cue from Manager Danny Murtaugh. The Pirate field leader has shown no outward sign of panic, has maintained essentially the same batting order and pitching rotation. For today's opener of a 3-game series with the Milwaukee Braves Murtaugh named Smoky Burgess to start behind the plate for the first time. The hefty catcher has done well as a pinchhitter, going 3 for 3.

Also called upon to make his first start was Harvey Haddix, the crafty southpaw pitcher acquired with Burgess and Don Hoak in the Frank Thomas trade with Cincinnati. eluding a return bout clause II London wins, will be signed shortly after Patterson arrives. The bout originally was scheduled for Las Vegas, then switched to Indianapolis. In the interim the date was changed from April 21 to May 1. Then came the announcement that Cecil Rhodes of Cranford, N.J., had been replaced as promoter, with Al Farb of Indianapolis and the Hoosier Boxing Club taking over.

Meantime, NBC television and the sponsor have announced that the fight will be shown on home television.
