Sales, Use Tax Shopping Complaints Being Probed HARRISBURG (AP)-The State Revenue Department said Tuesday its Bradford Sales and Use Tax office is investigating complaints about Pennsylvanians doing tax- free holiday shopping in New York State. Gerald Goldberg, head of the department's sales and Use Tax Bureau, said the specific com- SPECIAL VALUE! The businessmen complained that residents in their area are doing tax-free shopping for the holidays in comunmities across the New York state border. "We have not started any prosecution against anyone yet," Goldberg said. However, he said New York state business places "are required by law to register with us, collect the (4 per cent) sales tax and remit it if they do any substantial amount of business with Pennsylvanians." He said the department "is in the process of negotiating" now with the New York business places involved in the Warren complaints.

"Most of the business places in that area are registered with us but there are some that aren't," Goldberg said. "We have told the they face prosecution if they refuse to cooperate." Under the law, the public is required to pay a use tax on goods they purchase outside the com- moniveakh and which are taxable inside the state. Frank V. Hull The funeral service for Frank V. HulJ was held yesterday at the Tracy Hone of Funerals. Rev. Lloyd Chelton of the Hydetown Methodist Church officiated and read two hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and two poems, ''Now the Laborer's Task is Over" and "On a Death of an Aged Friend." Interment followed Ln Woodlawn Cemetery.

William Tobin Mrs. Minnie Foss Tobin, 86, died at p. m. yesterday at the Titusville Hospital following a long illness. She was born on Oct.

27, 1874 in East Troy, the daughter of Fredrick and Wilhelmins Ludwig Foss. She married William Francis Tobin of Titusville on Feb. 25, 1895. He preceded her in death 23 years ago. She was a member of St.

James Episcopal Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Irene Bodamer, Mrs. Helen Trudgen and Mrs. Marian Brady, all of Titusville; a son, Roscoe F.

Tobin of Erie; 28 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Helen Beatty of Titusville. Two sons, two daughters, four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Friends may cail at the residence, 439 Roberts anytime after 6 p. m.

Gerry G. Beebower Mrs. Roxie Bjebower, 70, of Townville, RD 1, at 8:35 a.m. yesterday at we Warren State Hospital following a long illness. She was born in Troy Township on Jan.

17, IS90, the daughter of Edward S. and Olive Mary Davison Sweet. She married Gerry G. Beebower on May 30, 1908. She was a member of the Townville Methodist Church, Steuben Grange and the Steuben Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her husband and the following children, Mrs. Viola May Knight of Meadville; Mrs. Lena Gertrude Maynard of Townville, RD Albert J. Beebower, Townville, RD nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Lyndley Sweet of Oil City and Ted Sweet of North Warren, a sister, Mrs. Lottie Proper of Oil City.

Friends may call at the Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home in Townville anytime after 2 p.m. today and attend the funeral service there at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev.

Bottling Co. at Meadville, announced the closing of the. plant, giving ill health as the reason for discontinuing operations. The plant has served the Meadville area for the past 22 years. Dies in Hospitat-Audley Clawges, 61, of Kane, RD 2, crushed between the station platform and a moving Baltimore and Ohio Railroad freight train Monday, died yesterday in Oil City Hospital.

The accident occurred in Kane. Clawges was a conductor on the train. Appreciative Subscriber Mrs. Samuel V. Sloan of 410 W.

The cost will be $25,000 per year, officials said. There will be an immediate raise for 94 of the 176. The remainder will receive the pay boost during the calendar year. Ex-Councilman Dies Augustus Van Riper, SO, former Meadville city councilman for terms and one-time confectionary store operator in Meadville, died Monday morning in Spencer Hospital, Meadville, after a six-week illness. Van Riper served councilman from 1930 to 193S and from 1942 to 1946.

He was director of parks and public buildings and public safety. Home The home of Joseph Ward in Irwin Township, Venango County, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The blaze routed Mrs. Ward and her three children. aged 12, 15 and 17.

The children discovered the fire as they went upstairs to prepare for school. Ward, who was at work, estimated the loss at $20,000. Just three years ago, the Ward family lost their home at Centertown when lightning set it on fire. Titus The traditional celebration; marking the Nativity of Jesus Christ at St. Titus Church will begin with the solemn mass at midnight. The Rt. Rev. William L.

Sullivan will be celebrant, assisted by the Rev. Richard Butryn as deacon, and a visiting priest as sub-deacon. Also assisting will be Mr. John Bodamer as master of ceremonies, Robert Felton as thurifer, John Beal of St. Mark's Seminary, Erie, as boat bearer, Jack Bucceri as cross bearer, and Alan Bodamer and James Brewster as acolytes.

The children's choir, under the direction of Sister M. DeLourdes, with Miss Doris Goodwill as the organ, will assist the sacred ministers in singing the mass, and will present a prelude of Christmas hymns beginning at 11:40 p. m. Fifty vested altar boys will lead the celebrant and his assistants to the altar, as the choir sings the processional, "Angels We Have Heard on High." At mass the Gregorian chant of Mass IV will be sung, except for the Kyrie, which will be the "ad libitum" and the Ambrosian Gloria. The offertory hymn will ba "Adeste Fideles." All other Masses in St.

Titus Church on Christmas Day will be low masses. These are scheduled at 7:30, 9 and 10:30 a. m. There will be additional masses offered between the scheduled masses, so that mass will be offered continuously from 7:30 until the last mass at 10:30 a. m.

There will be no noon or afternoon mass on Christmas Day. Confessions for Christmas will be heard Saturday morning at 11 o'clock for children. Confessions of adults will be heard Saturday afternoon from 3 until 5:30 and in the evening from 7:30 until 9.
